Not sure if this has been posted but I just watched The Yin & Yang of Gerry Lopez and all I can say is 'graceful’. I met Gerry while on a downwinder between Viento and Hood River. I was learning the ropes, he snuck up beside me and gave me some paddle tips while chasing bumps. He stuck by my side and as I started to get a better understanding of what he was talking about, I noticed he had his paddle upside down. Such a nice gesture for a person of his caliber to slow down and give some encouraging words on my own journey. This is a great watch, allow some time, sit back and enjoy: .

Stand Up Zone all the way …. and long live the paddle, it’s totally appropriate. Happy Thanksgiving!

Rolf - That was a heck of a read, made me stop and take stock. Thanks for sharing. Dave

Wingdingjoe: Yes, they are different. The new Axis Power Carbons are .25 & .35 stronger respectively than the 19mm aluminum mast and definitely stronger than the 1st generation carbon mast. Yes, the first generations can have play. It’s dependent on both the mast and fuse tolerances. You can build a better connection, if necessary, by building up with epoxy. The new Power Carbons evidently have a new hinged system that takes care of any play. Blue Planet interviews Adrian Roper:
About 41 min. in the new power carbons are explained. I still like the aluminum for a number of reasons, mainly $$$.

@eeck62 - windsurf foiler here and I have both the 880 and 899. I use my 880 in all kinds of conditions but mostly in high winds and hip high swell. I feel these two foils can be used in similar conditions, however they are different because the 899 takes more effort to start and stalls easier. The 880 doesn’t quite have that magical glide that the 899 delivers but the 880 is no slouch when it comes to chasing bumps and if the winds or water gets changeable/unstable the 880 is definitely less temperamental. For that reason, the 880 is my go to.

Check out the Cloud Cap Inn, go hiking above treeline and enjoy the cooler weather. Afterwards head down to the Cooper Spur Mountain Resort for food and beverage. It's a nice contrast from the Gorge landscape and a great getaway from the triple digit heat!

To add to your Gorge experience, get out on the forecasted east wind tomorrow. Ten to noon is often good somewhere between Viento, Home Valley, and/or Stevenson. It’s not the classic rolling swell we wish for but definitely worth experiencing if you’re here visiting.

Another great resource when planning your day: https://thegorgeismygym.com/forecast/. If Rufus looks good, stay, otherwise move on to Arlington. The corridor will most likely be good too, once the marine layer backs off.

No quick fix and a damn roller coaster. If photography or the mountain bike thing take over, I’m down to join you. Also, think about sailing Lasers. Years ago, I had a friend with MS, a US Ski Team Olympian, and he absolutely loved Lasers and how it kept him in the moment. When you return to Hood River, I’ll be in touch. I want to hear more on Baja, the place looks great! Dave

That looks like a lot of fun. You picked a good time to get out of Dodge ... all we’ve had is rain and now that the spigot is turned off, the ‘nothing' has settled in. Looking good and enjoy!

Hey Bill,^^^Lake Mohave^^^It's a drive, but check out Katherine's Landing on north winds. You might be able to trade off between coast and inland sessions if all goes well. Dave
