It's like a nickname, it should be bestowed upon you by your peers.
Not a self-given title.

Shoots, if that was me, anytime someone wants to pysically hurt me they got somethig coming, especially if I am minding my own business and not doing anything to anybody. I'd have a friend be the bait, have him go SUP there, and I'd be on the cliff waiting for those weak donkeys to start throwing rocks, then i'd go push them over the cliff.

Just SUPed 2nd bay Pohoiki yesterday. Bowls was firing, a lil' windy. I grew up in Puna, Keaau, so my regular spots were split between Pohoiki, Kalapana, and Honolii. Lived in Calif. for a bit, tried to get back to Kalapana before it got run over, missed it by  2 days!
Beach front houses there are now lava field front homes. And Madame Pele keeps on pouring it out as the lava continues to pour out into the ocean in the area. You ever visit, holler, we'll go SUP.

I know the contest you are talking about! That was big epic day. So many broken boards that day. The point around the corner and Scenic Points were flawless lines. The Pros were comparing it to Ulu Watu.
If we only had SUPs back then.... ;D

Honolii, take Sup4life out on a big day with his no leash when the river is rushing. Have a nice swim Troll.  ;D
You darn know the spot! ;D
How's this one, a few years back I was doing a late session, waves were solid, river was running. Sun already down and everybody going in, me doing the "one more wave", well a set comes and I get creamed, leash breaks, board gets washed in, and I'm in the rip from the river going out to sea. :-[
I'm the last guy out, so nobody saw me. I'm watching the headlights of the last cars leaving, and I am "Shit!". So had to swim out and around the whole cove and come through Points, avoid getting smashed on the reef, and then mad sprint across the river.
Half and hour or so in the dark. Then hunt my board down. Dead tired. Deleriously laughing at myself.
Never again be the last guy out and "one more wave".

Reminds of an incident that happened about a year ago.
At one of the spots here, the OC-1 paddlers like to get their fair shar of waves as it is a very open roller type with lots of room. When it gets bigger, the wave is SUP heaven. You sometimes share waves with them as there are lots of space on this open wave. One swell last year, there were some of the elite OC-1 paddlers just coming into the bay from their runs. They were catching waves in as they got in closer. I saw a set wave coming in and took off for it at the same time one of the OC-1 paddlers was also. I yelled at him to "go! Go!" as I had lots of room and he was way in front.  As I was riding and hooting behind him, we approached the are of the wave that bends, you have to kind of crank a turn here to stay in the face. I see him stuff his paddle into the wave to turn and I hear this loud "CRRAAACK!!", shoot right by him as he stalled all of a sudden. As I was paddling out I see his aama pointing straight up and his hullsemi-submerged. He was paddling as fast as he could to shore. The afternoon I inquired to my paddler friends if they heard what happened. They told me "Holy Shit! you was the guy behind him!" There was so much torque on his canoe it just pretty much cracked in two. A brand new Oc-1 to boot! first time paddling on it. Crazy!

SUP General / Anagrams

In light of all the hubaloo recently on here, I'd thought I'd lighten it up some.
This is a fun place to do anagrams.
Put inyour name or whatevers and see what comes out.
Stand Up Zone's anagram name is UP AND ON ZEST. How fitting.

I suggest you input "stand up zone" + your avatar name on here.  I did a couple of the regulars on here and there's some really funny ones. I won't ruin the surprise for them. ;D

Same scenario here, Sam.
With very limited places to surf on this side of the island, we are forced to get along or the consequence would be a tension filled surf session evertime. Who wants that?!
But with that also come the responsibility of respecting those who already have been surfing for years and put in their time, regardles of what they are riding.
When it's small and uncrowded, beginer SUPers are tolerated as they don't get in the way and not endanger others.  When it starts to get bigger, then the beginner SUPers with no surf experience or control of their board should not be in the line up. Most times, Mother Nature dictates who can and who cannot, as the beginner SUPers will quickly find out after getting pounded and caught inside that they have no business being out there. For the stubborn ones who keep endangering others, they'll pretty much get a talking to by the locals.
What I see hapenning in the last few months here are the older surfers giving it a go and getting into SUP. They are the ones practicing and learning in areas that has nobody out, not coming into the line up until they are ready, being respectful to the other surfers.  I've had a handful come up to me recently and told me they love it, how hard it is, I make it look easy, etc. My advice to them has always been don't compare yourself to me, I've been doing it longer so it's easier for me, keep pushing yourself. They have a lot more respect for the SUP surfers once they find out it's not easy right away. The ONE thing that stood out in our conversation is, "I'm not ready to take it to the line up yet."  These are older veteran surfers who've been surfing for years. They are humble and know their level of experience in SUP.
It's the NEW SUPers with NO experience in surfing that comes out in the line up and endanger others. We have a small tight  surfing community here, so everybody pretty much knows everybody, and if you are on a SUP in the line up and no one has ever seen you surf before, then that's a red flag right away.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
Usually of fictionous origin.

Good to see a Big Islander representing!
My buddy Christian Bartsch, Kona boy, living on Oahu.
He was down there for the tandem division and took 4th with his partner Aimee.  Pretty good considering Aimee had hurt her back in the semis and would not bow out.
Christian is not an all SUP guy, he does everything, tow-in, shortboard, etc. Right now concentrating on tandem. He's been surfing and helping out Leleo Kinimaka as he is getting into Tandem also. Said that Leleo is mega stoked on it and is going to be good.
You ever get a chance to talk Christian, good guy, lots of Aloha.
