Easy to make on water adjustments with the adjustable collar (though I'm sure not as easy as the clamp), just don't drop the hex key! I carry one and have done it numerous times. I got it with the plan of dialling in length and then gluing but I like the versatility of adjusting and don't notice it so have left it on.

+1 for Gorge Performance. I pre-ordered a 2014 Naish Glide GS from them last year, dealing with Bob who was friendly and helpful. Delivery kept being delayed (as it was world wide) but Bob kept me in the loop. Drove down from Canada (always good to have an excuse to go to Portland!) to collect and got a great price. Good experience and would do it again. I agree though, some of the others in the shop weren't as knowledgeable about SUP but as PB said, I just put that down to them being surfers or snowboarders. Not sure my wife/bank manager would like me living 50 yards away but would be great to have a shop like that up here in Vancouver. Big Winds sounds pretty awesome too.

I've not paddled the blend but at 30" wide I don't imagine there'd be any problems with stability, but maybe someone who has could advise. Obviously the atlas will be more stable but it's pretty heavy too which could be a consideration if you're wife will be carrying out of the water.

I am in sacramento. I am on the internet every day looking for used boards just have not found the right one yet. I really need to buy one before this weekend. going on a house boat for 4 days and would like to have a board with me.

Started off on a C4 iSUP, loved it. Still paddle it occasionally and still like it. Newer iSUPs are much better than the C4. If you're limited by storage space, don't rule an inflatable out.

Starboard boards come in a variety of "trims" depending on extras and construction. White is the entry level one and the prices could be within you're budget, especially if on sale. Something like a blend, big easy or cruiser would be a great all round board. The white doesn't have a deck pad but the deck construction is grippy.

Depending where you live, might be better off looking at the second hand market. Both the appeal to the gear junky and the impulse buy but never use leads to some pretty good second hand deals, especially in some of the bigger markets. A starboard cruiser would be a good option.

You don't need to cut off the 15 1/8" that measurement was where the part was designed to fit (taking into account the tolerances for the tapered shaft) to give the most adjustment between paddlers from 5ft. to 6ft. tall. You can place the part pretty much wherever you want. It can even be placed on the end of an uncut shaft. So you should be able to look at the range you wanted to dial in & place the part there. Then once you find your spot you can remove the part if you wish & just use the handle glued in place. If you want to cut off some excess handle shaft it won't hurt anything. If you decide to use the handle by itself you can (if you have a glue gun) just run a spiral of glue around the handle shaft for about 2" (starting where you want the handle inserted to and working your way to what will be inserted into the shaft) that should be more than enough. You can also apply the glue by just heating the stick and rolling it onto the handle shaft. An inch or so should be plenty but just make sure when you're inserting the handle to twist in a circular motion to help evenly spread the glue evenly. We have glue sticks for sale on the Ke Nalu website or you can also use high bond strength hot glue available at most hardware stores.

I've used shafts with the part installed at the 15 1/8" location & found the shaft to still have basically the same flex characteristics. You should be able to use your part as you intended without any problems but if you have any other questions you can contact customerservice@kenalu.com & we'll help in whatever way we can.

Appreciate some collective wisdom. Just received a maliko paddle, xtuff(s) with adjustable collar and extended ergo T. Hadn't appreciated the amount of shaft I'd have to cut off to use the adjustable part (recommended 15", minimum ~9"?) so thinking of just using the extended T without the collar. The handle came with no glue, how much of the handle should I apply glue to? A few inches like a normal handle? Should I cut the extended handle down a few inches if not going to used with the adjustable part?

Also, when using the adjustable, does cutting off so much of the shaft and replacing with the extended handle change the characteristics of the flex etc noticeably? I had hoped to use the adjustable to dial in the length then remove and glue but having second thoughts if have to cut off so much shaft.

There's quite a few threads on this (eg search "remove paddle handle boiling water"). I had luck with the boiling water method with a handle that inserted into the shaft by a few inches, put a big pan of boiling water on the stove, then submerged the handle in it for > 30 mins (I first tried 10 mins at a time then try to remove but didn't budge), after this it twisted off pretty easily. YMMV, I would have thought a heatgun would do a better job, maybe just need to heat it for longer.

The C4 10 6 iSUP was my first board and whilst I loved it (in the absence of anything to compare to maybe) and still have it, I think inflatables have improved significantly in the last couple of years. I'm 6 ft 180 lbs and didn't find it too bad stability wise but compared to boards I've been on since it's definitely less stable. Pump it up > 15 PSI (a work out in itself) and it's pretty stiff.
