Yes. A bit pricey. The last L41 I bought was around $800 for a like-new board. I’m always searching for fantastic deals like that.

The current Covid situation in Nosara is mild. Few cases in the region. Businesses are taking safe precautions and local medical center is coordinating a large scale testing effort starting early December.

Nosara is great. I would highly recommend it. I just moved back to the states after living there for a year. Great SUP surf opportunities on multiple beaches, nice boutique hotels that would be perfect to celebrate an anniversary, world class food, perfect weather in December, and you will do fine without Spanish. Both Nosara Paddle Surf and Bluezone SUP offer lessons and might be willing to rent equipment to you. Places to stay depend on your budget. Looking for places with fantastic restaurants, pools, spas, etc.? The Guilded iguana, Harmony Hotel, Moana Surf Resort, Lagarta Lodge. I wouldn’t rent a car. Any hotel with arrange an airport pickup for $125.

Does anyone have experience good or bad with these? Tempting deal.
Perhaps with the new GoFoil wings coming soon all the other manufacturers will be having similar sales.

I just returned from a 9 day vacation in Hanalei for my kids’ spring break. We have vacationed here about a half dozen times in the last decade. It’s a family favorite for its winning combo of surf accessibility for all ability levels, fishing, food, beauty, and laid back vibe. The weather in the spring is always a mixed bag but we were lucky this trip with little rain.
Throughout the week the surf was 2-7 feet. On average most sessions were waist high waves with set waves having faces up to about 8 feet. Winds were light during mornings and evenings and blowing up to 15 mph during the days. I preferred the 6:30-9:00 am time slots on the reef breaks; cooler, less people, calm winds.
The SUP scene seems fairly healthy with 2-10 local folks out with me each day. Lots of long board sups.
The SUP & prone foil community was really intriguing. They were everywhere and dropping into steep waves that I would never have expected. I overheard a few conversations exploring how most SUP surfers had or were in transition to riding foils. Lots of Terry Chung boards and Gofoils.
The locals were very friendly and welcoming to me. I’m at the ability level where I stick most of my drops into my chosen waves successfully, and I can quickly get out of the way if I fall. A few buddies of mine who are on the beginner side of the spectrum received a few stern looks and words when they got in the way of others. But tolerance of the locals was impressive overall and I even saw some of them make friendly suggestions or offer advice to the less skilled.
In conclusion, this place still remains one of my favorites for quality of waves, ease of access, friendliness, and long wave length.
At 195 lbs. I rode my 8’8 x 30 @ 127 L Popdart all week. I only wish I had a nose rider as well.
One of my favorite parts of the surfing in Hanalei is simply watching all the expert foilers and prone long boarders. Lots of rippers on this island.
Thanks to the locals for sharing such a beautiful spot.

Thanks all.
I’ll try the wax. I’m pretty sure that my fierce grip is compensating for my lack of fitness and desperation to not miss a good passing wave.
3 days out from vacation and I’m noticing that my fingers are sore as well. The elbows are on the mend.

I just returned from 9 days in Hanalei on family vacation. Most days I SUP surfed hard for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. Mid days were for family time, siestas, prone surfing with the kids, etc.
Like most of my SUP heavy vacations, my elbows both end up with great, deep pain by day 4 or 5. It only occurs while out paddling and usually completely disappears a few days after the trip. The pain while out SUP surfing is strong enough that I’m usually forced to head in early.
Does anyone else suffer from this? I suspect I’m gripping my paddle too tightly. It’s a Werner rip stick- very stiff. Perhaps I’m just going too hard at it after not paddling much recently.

Yeah, I actually called Infinity last week. As soon as I asked about SUPS I was put on hold and Dave Boehne picked up to answer my questions. I kept my cool. But I was a little starstruck.
28' is the narrowest board I've tried. Seems doable in perfect conditions.

According to their website, Infinity is selling off the last of their 10'x27" New Deals. The price of $1317 and free shipping has my attention. I can handle the length and 122L volume, but I'm nervous about the width. Anybody about 200lbs out there riding boards less than 28 inches in width?
Thanks, Tyler

I Surf at Westport near the jetty at Westhaven State Park. It’s a 2 hr 45 min. drive from Seattle. It’s the most popular spot in the state. I occasionally see other SUP surfers there on the weekends or on small, clean days. It’s rarely crowded, especially when the swell is over 5 ft.
There are many public access points north along the Straight of Juan de Fuca. As mentioned it’s a long drive, but a NW swell can bring rideable waves to points that are more than 75 miles from the coast.
Flat water or river SUP are more accessible all over the region.

Where is the sale on the Ripsticks? I’m looking to get a second one. I have the 89 adjustable 2 piece. After a year I’ve found my preferred length and I never adjust it. I think I’ll get the fixed one piece and keep my current paddle as a backup or loaner for friends.

For surfing I like the top of my paddle even with my eyebrows. I’m 195 lbs. on a 129 liter board.

After a few months in the queue, my new board finally arrived. I ordered a Popdart from Kirk at L41 in Santa Cruz.
I ended up deciding on a 8’8 x 30 @ 129 Liters With a wetsuit I’m 200lbs, 5’11 and an beginner/intermediate sup surfer.
I’ve owned a few factory production boards between 9’6 and 8’2.
I was looking for something durable yet light weight, functional and beautiful, and a size that would challenge me but not wear me out just trying to stay standing.
After a week in Tofino, I’m extremely happy and would highly recommend L41 to anyone. I’m particularly impressed with the solid construction. I kind of assumed that custom board would turn out to be a fragile board. I chose carbon rails which make this feel bombproof.
I’m traveling with my new baby to Nosara in 10 days. I’m looking for packaging advice. I’ve had damage before when traveling to Costa Rica with a board. I’ve tried wrapping the rails foam pipe insulation. And I’ve just built an envelope out of aluminum bubble wrap to slide my board into before it goes in a padded board bag.
Any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tyler in seattle
