Classifieds / board rental in san diego
« on: September 09, 2019, 06:43:06 PM »
OK this might be a long shot, I need to rent a SUP for a week starting Oct. 5. I'm coming out to San Diego to visit my friend and we are going to Mex for 5 days.

After that, my wife and I are headed to Portland to visit my kid and grand kids, so to bring my board would be a major hassle.

I thought if anyone close had a 8'5" - 9' x at least 30 wide, that would do it. I would be willing to pay $200 and my bud can pick up and return. As a added bonus, if you ever come to Florida, you can use one of mine at no charge!

  Thanks,  Mateo  904-377-4444

Last June I bought an Isle 9.3" wide diamond tail and the board is awesome. It's epoxy construction like a regular surfboard so it dings a little easier than a typical SUP, but it's not painted so you don't get those paint chips on the rails. The pad it came with is real soft and comfy.

I weigh 190 lbs. and have surfed for 40 years, this board is very stable paddling and rips in the surf, my friend says it's like cheating. It came with a free paddle that works, but is a little heavy. Very little damage after a year of moderate use.

I would say for the money, it's a great value.

My go to board is a 8'11" Joe Blair that is a little quicker, but the Isle has a good combination of glide and surf ability.

No, I don't work for those guys .......

thanks for the info, I lived in Encinitas for a couple of months 33 years ago and surfed all up and down the coast.

I tried to live there permanently, but being a 21 kid just married and no money that didn't work! My wife and I thought it was one of the most beautiful areas we'd ever seen, it still is, you guys are lucky to live there.

It'd be great if I could meet up with some of you guys for a session, I'll post again closer to my stay.

Thanks again,  Mateo

Travel, Trips, Destinations / beacons sup?

I'm visiting California in September and will be staying in Encinitas. Can I SUP at Beacons? I'm renting a house close by and don't want to drive to surf. I was thinking of just paddling a bit south or north to avoid the regulars.  Thanks for the low down, and thanks for all the good info on the zone!

Gear Talk / 1 board for sup and prone surfboard?
« on: October 17, 2009, 11:31:25 AM »
I have surfed for 37  years and am new (6 months) to SUP. I ride a 9' Walden surfboard and a 9'6" AIPA sup board. I want 1 board for both to travel with, can this be made?
I'm thinking a 9' 28"x4.5" thick board with an outline like my Walden. It has to be not too big so the airlines will take it and not too small ..... I'm 6' tall and weigh 183lbs. (mostly fat and not much muscle)
Before I started SUP, I never would have believed you could really surf a board that wide, so I'm thinking I could prone paddle surf it as well.
Any opinions?
Thanks for all the info I've learned on Stand Up Zone, SUP has got me stoked all over again!

Travel, Trips, Destinations / bob's mission surf
« on: August 30, 2009, 03:47:21 PM »
I want to give a big thank you to Bob at Bob's Mission Surf. I was visiting my daughter the last week in July and rented 2 SUP's from Bob. Since it was the swell of the summer, Bob suggested we paddle around Mission Bay. My daughter and her boyfriend had never been on a SUP, so the bay was perfect. They had a blast and of course can't wait to do it again. Next time I'm out there, I plan on getting in the surf.   If you're ever in San Diego, Bob will hook you up.
