Throw in swimming pool for few hours, air dry in the sun upside down to drain and dry.
Use and repeat.

Mine always go in a ziplock bag for the ride home so trunk does not smell like a locker room.

Random / Re: Delta Variant is here...
« on: July 25, 2021, 06:59:10 AM »
At this point I find it almost pointless to discuss the benefit of having the vaccine and not with the people not vaccinated, at least here in the US...

There is yet another variant showing up in S. Florida called  "Lamda" while "Delta" is the prevalent one in people testing positive and/or ending up in the hospital.
As long as Covid is still spreading and not slowed or stopped there will be varints, its not new that's why its called Covid 19 not Covid 1.

Florida, thanks you Gov. DeathSantUs, now can calim again the highest number of infected people with 73,000+ cases and a rate of positive test at just over 15% and climbing weekly.. tripple form 5% to 15% in 3 weeks.
The hospitals are reporting 90+ % of the people in he ICU's are not vaccinated and generally below the age of 55.

I'm vaccinated with Pfizer and glad I am, was one of the first in line and If there is a booster I'll line up to get that one to.

There is a reason that Polio and Smallpox are no longer a threat in the US and that's because of Vaccines that were given to 2+ generations of residents of the US population.

And here, with no restrictions now, had a concert 3 day concert "Rolling Loud" with 10+ thousand  shouting and screaming fans elbow to elbow, sharing who knows what, with no social distancing, or a care in the world about themselves or others.

Gear Talk / Re: Water Shoes
« on: July 13, 2021, 06:38:59 AM »
I have Superfreak split toes in two varieties, identical except one has a 1mm neoprene across the top of the foot , and the other has a lighter weight non-neoprene mesh.  Drain holes are a good thing.

Lookin around online and the Superfreak look OK, but all I see is 2mm neopreme, not the mesh. Mesh sounds like a good option.
I like barefoot better also if just paddlng the SUP.. but when fishing I need some protection cause many times I have to jump off the board, (also kayak or canoe), do the jesus run and chasing down a running Bonefish in shallow water and need some protection from rocks or coral.

As far as barefoot, unfortunately due to medications I have to start covering up in the sun, so shoes or some sort of sock is required. Warmth is not an issue though here in sunny South Florida.

General Discussion / Board Bags ??
« on: August 07, 2020, 04:34:06 PM »
Shinny side up  or shinny side down ?

I have an older board, and a board bag.. board has been out of the bag for a few years in the garage, recently had to move the board outside for a little while, so I put it in the bag out back on my racks where I keep a canoe and a kayak covered wit your typical gray canvas covers.

Decided to set it shinny, gray reflective (bottom), side up facing the sun and the sun seems to really be taking its toll on the shinny reflective gray stuff, which has the consistency of a blue hurricane tarp, and is becomming weathered quickly.

I also find the bag is not water-proof and fills with water in a hard rain.

Whats your opinions.facts.. comments about the right way ?

SUP General / Re: Soft SUP Rack ?
« on: July 27, 2020, 06:27:30 AM »
I used Soft racks for years and they work well, althought I use them on a 2dr Civic... they last a few years before the foam has given up its useful life. The first set was Dakine double surfboard racks, (long before there were SUP's). meant to carry up to 4 surf boards, currently have hard Thule aero racks, but carry a set of soft SUP racks  made by FCS.

The FCS soft SUP racks are more pricey than many others, but they have, mpo, the best and easy to use tie down FCS D-ring system. The ones I have now came with a soft bag and stow easily in the trunk for emergency use, you never know when someone might steal the hard racks off the roof of your car.

One note, if you drive in any rain, every soft system I;ve had, the web straps that go thru your vehicle will wick water and drip at the lowest poingtwhich is usually right in someones lap or you're seats...

I would suggest that you also use a bow and stern line for additional security when travelling, I take many 1-2 hour drives to get to a fishing hole, at hi-way + speeds.

Seeing the same or very similar curve here in sunny south Florida... highest numbers since beginning of April.

Coincidence, maybe, maybe not, but since the local goberment starting opening syuff up, the protest, and the blind frustration or ignoramce of people refusing to wear mask in public and fighting the ordinace requiring mask indoors.. we'll never know.

But it ain't looking good, MPO, ... I'm in an akward situation and stay away form people and inside asmuch as I can.. have anything deliverd if possible and quarantine it for a few days before opening if possible.. thanks Amazon and Instacart.
Akward situation, heart transplant on 3/17/20, and at that time my immune system has beed suppressed so my body can't fight infections... and can't stop the anti-rejection meds or my body will kill off that new used heart.

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Hydration, Walker & Runers
« on: June 06, 2020, 05:59:24 AM »
Not surfing, but where there are surfers there are usually some runners or in my case walkers.

I'm 70 and just recently March 17th received a heart transplant. Trying to get back on the go and walking approx 4 miles now and moving forward, although slowly 19 minute miles... Its sunny South Florida with days liek today, overcast 881 degrees but 95% humdity, feels like 92...

Because of the much higher risk of skin cancer, due to anit-rejection and suppressed immune system, I have to wear long sleeve high UPF rated shirts and a hat.

How do other walkers Hydrate before, during, and after a walk or run.

Carrying a water bottle is a pita, thinking of sometihng like a CamelBak..

Whats your thoughts and solutions ?

Random / Re: Heart damage and Covid-19
« on: May 06, 2020, 07:28:00 AM »
I'm on the other side of that equation, had a very bad failing heart. Went into the hospital beginning of December before Covid was a thought... then it happened.

I got a heart transplant on March 17th, the last one done in that hospital til now, was discharged in 7 days, usually 2 to 4 weeks, because the hospital doctor/staff said I'd be safer at home.  It was getting very busy and rough in the hospital at that time, not enough mask or gloves to go around, staff very woried about what would happen.
For a transplant patient the suppress your immune system to help prevent rejection and infection, plus lots of pills. So now I have barricaded myself in my house and don't leave... many complain because they don't believe or want to wear a mask when outside, for me its a life or possible death decision. Sent home to dodge and perhaps fight the Covid-19 virus with no immune system.

I wear a mask, and will have to for a year, when going outside to help prevent me from getting sick, the public is asked to wear a mask out of consideration for others to help prevent you from getting me sick.

With a bit of makeup and mood lighting it is almost attractive and worth a test drive.

I'll vote for the one who has the best believable plan to fix the out of control Prescription Drug prices...

Its only July and I have hit the dreaded donut-hole.... on drugs that are considerably less expensive, Same Brand and Dose,  if you go underground and purchase them in/from Canada or Turkey.

SUP General / Re: 12'6" board to big for 10 year old?
« on: June 16, 2019, 06:56:50 AM »
Just go with the 12'6" especially if its recreational... kids are kids and they will have parties on that board and paddle with passangers to play around... they also are growing rapidly at the stage in life and in 1 year they can grow several inches and pounds.

Get an adjustable length paddle and they will be set.

If its a performance/competiton thing, you'll want to get an appropriate size for their weight with matching paddle, but beware you will be setting yourself up for continuous purchase's every 6 months for a couple years.

SUP General / Re: Which transport method to use?
« on: June 16, 2019, 06:39:40 AM »
I have some of those hood loops.. had the ones with the groment, but this '08 Civic does not have bolts like other years had in the right place.. I also have a set from Yakima that have a rubber hose where you open the hood put them in the crack and close the hood on them...

But with the short car/longer boards/canoe/kayak I like the setup I have.. the Civic's so far have 2 tie down rings below & under the valance in the front and one dead center in the rear.. I made a DIY - Y setup with good no stretch line & caribiners on each end, simply lean down clip them to the tie-down rings, then have a centerline single going upwards to the board... it would be just as easy to use two lines but I have been doing it this way for 20 plus years with no side to side issues.
The Sup Brah adds a tie-down option bow/stern on the board itself, as most do not have any way to attach to the bow or stern.. I would not trust simple leash plugs for that stress, I cincg it down pretty tight. In the photo you can see it also has a webbed strap to be connected bow/stern and I simple us my Y setup and attach to that webbed strap, I could remove it and use 2 lines and perhaps add a little more stability side to side at the front.
I just sold an old pair of racks to a guy with a 2019 Civic and the new ones do not have the tie-down rings.. so he uses a set of the loops like that.

The only side to side action I get is with my canoe in heavy winds, or when pulling up on and passing a big rig, it would wiggle a little and slide an inch or so at the center point so I added a piece of 1/2" line as wide as the gunwales, on top of the racks, used shrink wrap to honle them in place, work like load stops and stopped all the motion. I actually shrink wrapped the entire Thule Aero Bar, becaus ethey have a rubber strip on the top that is not non-marking rubber and left black marks on the contact points of my paddle craft, at the sme time I painted the bars black and blacked it all out to match the car better.

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Re: Miami, So Florida summer surf?
« on: June 16, 2019, 06:23:27 AM »
Miami, in July and August. Is it as bad as I think?

Yes, unless you like sun abd heat, but it's only a little over 2.5 hour drive North to find some knee high's. Unless of course there is a big storm just passing offshore to the North.
