Travel, Trips, Destinations / Re: Portugal SUP Surfing Rentals?
« on: December 28, 2022, 07:24:09 AM »
I think the best option is still Mauka Lodge. Tiago also rents boards (depending on the person). I've already sent him a few guys there.

It's not easy to rent Performance SUP boards in Portugal. I rent a few times (www.supnorte.com), also depending on the level and on the boards I have at the moment (I have dozens of all-rounders and 2-3 carbon performance boards).

No wind or waves to big to try the ART999 for the first time. No problem, there's always a dock: www.facebook.com/axisfoilsportugal/videos/595600128231792

Unfortunately I don't know what's available in the euro market.  There is a Zoner in Portugal (username Supnorte) who is or was a distributor for some great SUP brands. If you message him perhaps he can help with info.

Thanls Duskpatrol. we just exchanged some messages.

Foil SUP / Re: Axis wings for supfoiling

I started with standard fuselage and then when to the short fuselage. Now I'll have both short fuses (red and black). As for tails, I started with the 440 and now have the 400 and the 460.

My day to day mast is the 75 cm, but I also use the 68 cm for shallower waters, and the 90 cm for wingfoiling. I'll received the 76 cm carbon mast (v2) soon.

I'm 75 kgs and I started SUP foiling on the 920, them upgraded to a 1000. I loved the 1000 for foiling in good waves: amazing speed, pumpability and good carving. I also have the 1150 for really small stuff and I love it. I had the 1010 for a few sessions: really cool wing, with lots of glide and pumping (very different feel pumping between the 1000 and the 1010, as the 1010 likes longer glides between pumps and the 1000 is more like an accelerator).

Now, I sold my 1000 and I'm going to add the the HPS 980 and 1050 and keep the 1150. I will use all wings for SUP foiling, wingfoiling and the smaller ones for prone foiling.

The new Axis 1300 front wing wasn't design with flatwater pumping in mind. It was made for ligh wind wingfoiling and downwind, and it should be absolutely smoking on those conditions. And that why it's not very similiar to the 1150 (different aspect ratio, lower area, volume and also different foil section).

Nevertheless it's an amazing wing for pumping and surfing small bumps.

My friend Tiago went on a FREAK mode this week!

First he pulled a wingfoil dock start:

And then, he went for the 2 minutes dock start challenge but actually made it for 2.30 minutes!

He was using the new Axis Foils 1150 wing, big pump machine!

Awsome!

Can't to see also the fooatge from Anthony Maltese at the Waco wave pool (although totally different kind of wave and also of surfer).

A lot of my friends have both the 75 and 90 cm masts. A 90 cm seems better for dealing with chop and goin high speeds.

Here's a friend of mine last weekend going full speed on a 90 cm mast (900 wing and standard fuse): https://www.facebook.com/axisfoilsportugal/videos/396500671275650/

We had a 1150 pre-production wing here in Portugal. And my friend that's an expert on downwind and wing. This was his veredict:

"A mandatory wing for downwind. Used it in light downwind (10 knots) and it suprised me a lot; super easy lift, keeps the speed while flying with no oscilations or vibrations, which is impressive for it's huge span. Flight speed is moderate but I was able to pass to the bump ahead of me. Ok manouverablility."

Foil SUP / Re: What do people want in a foil?

The guys are loving the 1010 for wingfoiling in light winds and also downwind in the breeze.

Here's a friend of mine yesterday: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=340137070303116

Anyway, the future is to have a quiver, just like in other sports. You have a few wings (2, 3, 4 or even more) and trade them depending on what you will do that day (SUP, prone, downwind, wing, pump), etc. That's why modular foils sets work great!

P.S. I'm loving the Axis 1000 on the waves! Can really go for steep drops without popping out with no control and I rarely breach (only when I do mistakes). Awesome speed and pumping. I'm not carving on it (still on a learning phase), but I can change direction easily. My quiver right now is the 920, 1020 and 1010, but in the near future it will be the 1000, the 1010 and the 1150.
