Hi folks,
as already mentioned in the subject of this post, I have a (SUP-surf-newbie) question: When is a 2+1 setup useful on my 12'6 board? Will the outer fin help turning the board, or will they give more grip but prevent it from turning? I have here just mushy onshore waves and I'm quite unsure about the right fin setup. And if it is worth to buy a new fin set.
Cheers Andi

Hi folks,
I'm thinking about getting a Starboard Generation. But I'm unsure in which contruction. The cheaper "lite tech" or the more expensive "carbon top". By weight, the carbon is ~800gr lighter, but also 800€ more expensive. 1€/gr. But wouldt it be worth the price? How are the advantages apart from weight reduction? Is the carbon top more durable?
I am pleased to hear your opinion.
Cheers Andi

Where are you located?
I live in a small town at the coats of the "Bay of Lübeck" in Germany. Up to now, the wind is under 20 kts if I go paddling: First, a hard paddle upwind, than a short but delighting downwinder. Or, like yesterday, trying to get the 1 ft waves near the beach building up by 15 kts wind. Coming from surfing, currently i think more like surfer than like a paddler ;-) Although the conditions (chaotic, short periodic and mushy.) are mostly not surfable. @all: thanks for your input and replies!

What's your budget range? Your Height, weight (and age if you think relevant)? Your downwind experience?
Budget: max 1.800 € Height: 1,87, weight ~88kg actual board: 9'6 32'' wide, 150l wave SUP that I built my own. Experience: downwind -> nope SUP -> ~1 year in nearly all conditions the baltic sea has to offer, from absolutely flat water up to chest high mushy windwaves Goals: Downwinding and surfing in these conditions, not so much on touring

@Area 10: Thank you very much for your comparison! That actually hits my thoughts about the boards. 37lbs for a 14' Perv sounds really heavy. On their website, GONG says the 12'6 Perv has only 25-26 lbs. Would that weight difference raise the downwind capabilities? The Hypr Hawaii gun sounds great but but this would gonna blow my budget. Another board that also could fit (board design and budget) ist the Starboard Generation. Any thoughts on it?

Hi folks,
I'm looking pout for my first downwind board. The boards that I like best at the moment are the SIC Bullet and the GONG Perv (both boards in 12'6 * 30). Why 12'6 and not 14? I don't what the boards to be too sluggish because the should also fit a kind of surfing in mushy, windy conditions up to shoulder high. From the descriptions by the manufacturers thy should do quite the same things. The most obvious difference between thes two boards are their volumes. The SIC comes with 280l, the GONG with only 200l. What differences should I expect? The Bullet more for touring/downwinding, the Perv more for Surfing/downwinding?
What are your thoughts (maybe someone out there knows both boards?)? With pleasure I'd like to hear also your considerations concerning the board length.
Cheers Andreas

Talked to some guxs and it seems that an UD glass tape will be the better choice for a (fake) stringer. But now i have a new question: I can get 220 gr UD glass tape, 100mm or 60mm wide. Whta setup will be best? 100mm just on bottom or are 60mm enough? Or 60mm on top & bottom? Or Or 100 mm on top & bottom? Still whant to go with carbon rails...

Hey guys,
for my next project (9'6 xps SUP) I want to try a 160 g/m² (5oz) twill carbon rail. Now I'm in doubt if I need something to make the board stronger. And how. My Idea is to use a unidrectional carbon tape (160 g/m² (5oz)) on the bottom. Will that improve strengh without getting too stiff?
Glassing is planned 2*160 g/m² and 1* 160 g/m² on bottom.
Best regards, Andi

Maybe 3" in the tail. Leave a little more volume in the tail too. The 4- 1/2" is good for mushers. I would put just a little flip at the nose. Put a little bevel in the bottom rail for the front 1/3 of the board (like a 50/50 rail). It helps in more ways than one on standups.
This helps me a lot!! Thank you very much!

What kind of break do you surf? Steep fast? Mushy weak rollers?
Mushy weak rollers.

hi folks,
I'm completely new to SUP-Boards. I alraedy built some surfboards and I wonder if I can take the same rockertable for a SUP as for a "normal" surfboard... I want to build a 9'6 32'' 4''1/2 Wave/Allround SUP.
My 9'6 longboard has 4''5/8 nose and 3 1/2 tail rocker. Is that ok to start with? Or do I need more rocker?
best regards from Germany, Andi
