General Discussion / Re: Tesla designs. Not really SUP friendly
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:43:48 AM »
Model Y with a Rack will work if you don't mind Racking.
A Hatchback is just so much more practical.
If only you could remove the passanger seat it would give you a long space.
Pacifica Hybrid Van or a Toyota Rav4 Prime might be good choice.
Except you can't get a Rav 4 Prime cause Toyota didn't  make enough of
them and the few that get through are way over MSRP at most places.
I think you could get a 9' 5" in a Pacifica Van no problem, no racking.

Technique / Re: On your knees, or on your feet?
« on: October 26, 2018, 10:55:18 PM »
Only kneel when its windy or choppy so as to not use up
my energy fighting the wind or balancing.

I also try not to go out when its windy or choppy on a SUP.

Gear Talk / Re: Coiled leashes any negatives?

Got a full coil off ebay and have used it a coupe of times in
small surf medium kelp.(15 bucks )
I like the way it stays on the board doesn't seem to stop
me from walking the board and less drag (may be imagining
this that )
Only place it feels a little strange is when I am in the water
by the board and its pulling up a little.

Saw a electric  surfboard foil setup but its 12k they want a 6k deposit
to get in line even Tesla only makes you put down 1k on a model 3.

Gear Talk / Re: Anybody playing with quad fin sizes and
« on: October 25, 2017, 12:42:27 AM »
Tried as thruster . Tried as a quad with the 5's the 4's and a stubby.
Tried as a twinser with a stubby real loose. Now trying it as a quad with
all 4's and a stubby . Initial feeling is little more stable than the twinser
but more loose than the 4 5 quad setup. Makes sense I suppose.

Where do you find these redfin 3d fins never heard of them.
A search on first pass produces fishing lures.

Anybody playing with quad fin sizes and do
fin slot fillers make a difference for sup surfing or
the padding that goes with it.
Currenly on a surfing sports Hammer 9'5 with 5 inch
front quads 4 inch rears and a 3.5 strubby.
Trying it with just the front 5's and the stubby
A little less stable that way but turns around in  its own length.
Thinking of trying all 4's

This guy does old school with a paddle.

On the opposite side you can tell people that have never surfed still paddling on
a wave when they don't need to. I surfed for a decades before there even was
stand up paddling. I have got to place where I  am using the paddle to stabilize
and recover in situations where I would otherwise fall and to exit the wave but still
am not using it for radical turns or board spins accept accidently. The guy in the following video is what
I am using as something to aspire to as far as using the paddle to turn.

Ke Nalu / Re: Ke Nalu's New Blade Design
« on: March 16, 2016, 11:18:27 PM »
I have an original elite with a 95 and Hoo loa 84 my
guess is a 90 would be somewhere in between as far as
power is concerned, would this be correct.
I have been pretty much only using the Hoo loa and I just
go out with the intention of surfing.

Can you explain is this a good surf blade.
Would the winglets detract from using this style blade in the surf.

« on: July 30, 2015, 11:46:35 PM »
1a Are you walking the board and trimming it .
1b) Nose Rides and hanging 5 or 10
2) Turns , Turns using your paddle
3) Switch stance riding
4) 360.s off the tail and nose.

Technique / Re: Pumping on a thruster setup
« on: June 23, 2015, 11:40:55 PM »
Quad setup is faster or you can try a twinser and a really stubby center fin.
Your paddle is and extra fin if you think its wobbly .
The board speed does depend on how you are trimming it .
You should be able to walk foward to gain some speed.
Since you are on a long board you should be walking it a lot.
