Gear Talk / Re: Fanatic Strike - Carbon vs BXF?
« on: March 13, 2020, 05:45:17 AM »

OK that was a nice layup comparison but how do they perform different?

(Since I've ridden both..practically side by side)
The Carbon is obviously lighter (racing carrying to the water) Carbon also felt more acceleration (Livelier) and buoy turns were faster
The BXF is a durable construction of an excellent shape but feels more like a tuned up turning board (compared to a Fanatic Ray) Lastly I guess it comes down to application (what you are using it for/Paddler size/ability) and cost

I asked questions of the original poster but got no response...So I'm kinda in a holding pattern detail wise

The STRIKE is a GREAT board. The construction question is basically 2 fold
1) How heavy you are?
2) Are you intending to (Primarily) race this and at what level of competition?

Lastly where you are and some insight in conditions might help

For faster response PM me

My son (Cheyne) a proner LOVES the BOCAS!
Not my cup of Tea

Length helps you get into waves generally (I know this is a huge generalization) length isn't helping you after that. Check out what Kelly Slater is ridding at Pipe. Not that any of us can ride like the GOAT but I think you can see the point

I LOVE this leash and if its only a few weeks old I'll bet Dakine will warranty it.
You can take it back where you bought it and they will take care of it.

If you have a problem I'll be happy to help

SUP General / Re: Was followed by seal today
« on: February 03, 2020, 09:31:40 AM »

I have very few natural talents but I can say without any doubt I'M A SEAL MAGNET!
I don't know why maybe I'm the same size and shape or I smell like one I don't know.
Just this passed Sunday 2 were laying out on a jetty 50+ yrds away I wasn't in the water 10 minutes and they came over to me (there were a dozen other guys in the lineup) way less than 10yrds (more like 2 to 5 yrds) Swimming around checking me out Then barking at me!
They didn't hurt me but when I would stand up and paddle for a wave they would catch it After the wave I would paddle out and they'd be gone for 5+ min. then they'd show up do the whole check me out, barking routine, catch the wave with me. Did not act aggressive to me But after the 3rd time the Proners asked me to leave They were concerned about the seals swimming around.

That is how it works with me for some reason

Gear Talk / Re: Naish 2020 Inflatable SUPs
« on: February 03, 2020, 09:21:43 AM »

That is an amazingly enlightening video that SIC (generally considered a good board in both design and construction) flexed that much with only a reasonable sized guy (as opposed to my clydesdale mass) not overly jumping up and down and the board flexed that much.

I need to rethink inflatable SUPs

Gear Talk / Re: Which SUP?
« on: January 27, 2020, 09:31:28 AM »
We get this question alot at our shop.
First those big heavy fishing SUP's are not as fast as sit down Kayaks
as far as the best fishing one (IMHO)
BOTE (I don't sell them) seem to have a bunch of options
The Starboard Expedition or Fisherman we have sold a bunch and the users seem very happy with the price and performance.

Personally I use either a Starboard Avanti or the Fanatic Fly 11'2 but I'm a minimalist a couple topwater plugs, a couple Jigs and some Slugo's and a pair of needle nose pliers.
NOTHING BETTER than fishing from a SUP!!!

Let me know if I can be any further help.
