SUP General / 10` laird softop review
December 21, 2008, 06:25:28 AM
well,i just got my new 10`27'4.5' softop laird board. I`m 5`11 and 210 lbs, I have been surfing/skateboarding for about 26 years, snowboarding for 9,and kiteboarding for 8,so i feel like my water time is a valid resource. I have only Sup once before on a 11`6 and was a litle worried about getting something so small, but i figured with my background the learning curve shouldn`t be that bad?? yesterday i took out my new sup, at first i did`nt think it was going to float me!! ocne i got out past the waves "only waist-ribhigh"with strong offshores, i was able to find the sweetspot, i was having troulbe so my buddy let me ride his 12` laird softop, what a differnece!! i soon found how to really use the paddle and get around a bit. he was catching waves no problem,he 5`10 about 190lbs. once i felt like i had it i got back on my board. it helped ALOT to ride that bigger board for awhile, but i found with the tide getting high and the offshore wind,it was hard to catch the waves, so i put my paddle underneath me and caught some waves belly paddling, just to see how the board worked. I was amazed at how it turned and went down the line, i was able to cacth the waves really early so when i stood up i had my paddle in my hands and i was able to use it and help get in the waves a little better, WOW the speed!! i was able to get up on the nose and then all the way back and use the paddle to help me do cutbacks!! WOW i`m soo stoked, can`t wait till i actually can paddle into some waves, i think the 27' wide might be a little to narrow for a beginner ,but with practice i`m sure it will work out for me, i`m going to do some flat water training, instead dealing with the waves ,to helpout. If your a guy"person" about my size i would say get this board, itsreally fun in the surf and i might actually use it as my longboard just for fun!

yeah ,that is what i was thinking. but its hard when you dont really know what u r doing!! but i do know that i dont want a big board, and that it seems everybody is going smaller so they can surf better. i like the 10` but i guess i need it wider??

SUP General / kook feet!!

well i am going to label what happens when you first try to SUP!! KOOK FEET!! Its what you get the first time you ever get on a board and try to go straight out into 3 foot surf!! Feeling pretty confident in my water skills , i went and got my buddies 11` foot board and paddle and by myself tried to SUP :o!! KOOK FEET as i will and feel free to use it is what happens when you R on your knees and the tractop rubs alllll the skin off you toes and tops of feet!! Standing was WAY harder then i thought it would be" go figure", but after trying to do nothing but catch waves and falling . I finally paddle out pass the waves and took my time to find the sweet spot on the board and  went for a 3 mile paddle fest!! the tide came in and the waves picked up pretty a little bit, its crazy standing up on that board i was telling my buddies where and when the waves were coming. I was in the water more than on the board, but after surfing for over 26 years, i have not had a smile sooo big in so long it was refreshing!!  SO i share my KOOK FEET story with you and hope to see you guys out there ON MY FEET!! :D

well i`m new aswell, and he beat me to my question!!! i`m 5`11 and 210 lbs, been surfing  for over 20 years ,kiteboarding for 6,and feel  good about my water time. i`m thinking i would rather put up with the learning curve with a smaller board and be able to ride the waves better then if i get a huge board that i`ll have to sell and buy end up buying a smaller board later, but my question is will a 10`6 board float me?? good enough for the smaller waves of florida?? But still be big enough for me to use the board as a paddleboard for touring"small distances""? After watching the local and seeing them ride longer boards and have trouble dropping in on them , i`m thinking the smaller board is for me, but am i`m a fool to think that i will pick this sport up that fast!! I haven`t even been on a paddleboard yet. But i surf anything from a oldskool fishes to oldskool longboards"big beast" and i`m fine on all types of boards so what should i get?? sorry for the long start but the coffe has gotten to me!! :P
