SUP General / Re: International shipping

I would check with DHL...I have had good service and results from them shipping anything from passports to kayaks internationally from Canada....give them a call
or ship south of the boarder and go pick it up and drive across with it if you can..

SUP General / Re: SUP vs. Kayak

OK, here is the results from an experiment today.

I paddled a Walden 9.4 magic SUP, my friend paddled a 9.4 Cobra Stike sit on top surf kayak.
And no ,this was not your department store boat (tub) or inexperienced boater (over confident chump).

I come from a 40 year back ground of white water and touring kayaking and a life time of surfing all kinds of crafts the world over, and a few years of SUP surf and touring, so this one caught my attention. I was instantly curious..here is how it went for us.

The "race"
Head wind, both competent on our chosen craft. Similar age and fitness.
We went head to head flat out for about three minutes and stayed together for the duration of the "race". A tie for the short distance.

My sense is that over any distance and ideal conditions the kayak will be the fastest and most versatile.

Keep stroking the stoke...cg

Gear Talk / Re: baord for small guys
December 17, 2009, 09:15:03 AM
Hi, thanks for all your suggestions.

My main concern is having a board that is too wobbly. I keep hearing that anything narrower than 28.5 could be too tippy.
What is the problem with a board that is somewhat wider for smaller guys..seems to me like it could be more stable and easier to get into waves?
I surf mainly good quality point waves...anything from 2 feet and up. Sometimes needing to paddle for 1/2 mile or so to get to waves.

Keep your ideas coming..it sure is helpful.
Thanks..cg

Hi there.

I hope you guys can help with some suggestions.

I am 5'2"..145 lbs..intermediate life long surfer, SUP surfer in the making.
I am considering the Surftech lopez 9'6" surfmusic or the lopez 8'11" litle darlin.

Any folks out there with experience on these boards or suggestions for a surf SUP for smaller / lighter intermediates would be appreciated..thanks..cg
