Sessions / Re: sup with my wife...

Sup is a magic activity! My wife is the consummate anti-athlete.  She is a superb cook, loves to putter around the house, cleaning, and is an almost militant animal lover. I finally convinced her to go for a paddle with me in the harbor. She (like so many females) was a natural, and with very few tips was paddling like a pro. When she paddled by a group of otters, seals, and watched a multitude of rays flying beneath us, she was hooked. At my first opportunity I bought her a pink 11 footer and matching pink paddle. She almost never turns down an invitation to go for a paddle. Unfortunately I don't think I can ever convince her to get into the surf. But, I'm happy to paddle the flat water with her!

If it is about the same for you either way, then I suggest you stand regular when you go right, goofy when you go left. I'm 59 and been surfing goofy foot for almost 40 years.  This summer I have been working on switching stance when I go right. That's a lotta muscle memory to unlearn. Learn to switch now, you can thank me later.

Gear Talk / GoPro tail mount question
June 27, 2013, 05:28:56 PM
I was thinking I'd like to have a GoPro mount on the tail of my SUS, but I'm concerned that the leash will get fouled with the camera with the potential of lots of bad things happening. It would be used strictly for small wave days.  Any suggestions on the best mounting location - ahead or behind the leash, off center, or is this just a dumb idea?

Thanks Lane, and all the folks at Ke Nalu. I couldn't have been more surprised at having been chosen the winner! Looking forward to getting the Wiki out in the surf and seeing how it compares with Maliko.

How 'bout a tandem obstacle course. 2 kids, 2 paddles, one board maneuvering around buoys and other obstacles.

WRT right of way; The rule of gross tonnage has always worked for me.  The vessel with the greatest gross tonnage has the right of way, because in the event of a collision it wins! On a sup, with very few exceptions, you ain't it.

These girls are my best buds! Skipper is 13, Coconut is 3. Skipper has always been a water dog, Coconut hated the water. 2 weeks ago my wife and I decided to try them out on the sups. My wife waded out into knee deep water and I carried Skipper out and left coco on the beach. While I was putting her on the board I turned around and Coconut was swimming out to join us! The first time she EVER got into the water voluntarily!

I just spent 5 days in Santa Cruz sharing waves with prone and stand-up alike.  Nothing but good vibes and the occasional hoot. My fun meter was pegged all week.

Really appreciate all the responses and suggestions.  I'm sure there are many shorter longboards out there that are terrific performers, but not really what I'm looking for.  I'm looking for a 10' board that will get me into any 2' mushburger that happens along, but with the added benefit that it's nice and loose. My 9'2" is just the ticket when the surf is good!

Gear Talk / Re: Longboard/noserider sup recommendations?

Is that the Pnut from imagine? I couldn't find anything on the Corran site.  The Imagine is definitely out of the box!  I'm seriously considering a Kings board, but want to check out what else folks like before I pull the trigger.

Gear Talk / Longboard/noserider sup recommendations?
February 28, 2013, 08:15:50 PM
I'm really enjoying my new SUPSports 9'2" X 32" carbon WD, but I want to add something like a 10' noserider for those small. bumpy days. I want a nice stable paddler for chop and a board that turns with little effort on a small wave. Oh, and will accommodate frequent trips to the nose. I'm open to any suggestions, but should be available in CA.

Thanks, Willy
