The Shape Shack / Re: XPS densities

FYI - I went into home depot and weighed the pink panther sheets and they didn't' match the spec sheet.  Beasho has done the same with the grey dow xps and found weights vary...

As far as AI replacing hollywood or being able to crank out full length movies, what is the explanation for the hardware/render times or abilities?  I could understand AI replacing visual artists who animate frame by frame in maya or whatever, but how can AI replace entire render farms and all the processing power it takes to render video?

it's this stuff https://www.dupont.ca/content/dam/dupont/amer/us/en/performance-building-solutions/public/documents/en/styrofoam-brand-sm-xps-foam-insulation-pis-43-d100086-enca.pdf

Specs say "Compressive Strength(1), ASTM D1621, psi (kPa), min = 30(207)".  If I am reading that right...30 pounds per square inch density.  But I may be misunderstanding the measure. The blank doesn't seem excessively heavy. But sure needs a lot more elbow grease to cut it with a surform!

I am making an homage to the Omen Flux 60, as a quiver killer combo wing prone board.  Thinking it'll be called "Ol'Man Sux" though.

Compressive strength means one could put a 30 pound weight and it won't crush.  Look up the pink panther stuff at home depot I think they have the psi on there and you can get an idea of density.  There might be some correlative formula, maybe Denton knows it...

Of the tragic events that have happened in my life Lahaina is the first place I was familiar with and have a connection to.

The first thing I noticed is how hidden from view the devastation is and how one could visit and not even know something horrible happened.

Both Gorilla Glue and Epoxy have a specific gravity of 1.1 meaning 10% heavier than water.  So, if there is any water seeping into the fiber it weighs LESS than the Glue would otherwise weigh permanently bonded into the fiber.

Said another weigh, porous fiber will always be lighter than glue filled fiber whether or not it takes on water.

Well this is an interesting point.

So a board's skin/laminate soaking up water is lighter than a board's skin that is fully wetted out with gg or resin?

My boards are diy builds.  We had Jeff's 2 year old prototype as the model for what might work, and then Denton got all scientific and did tests and came up with a glassing schedule.  So we ran with that and our own best guesses.
I made a full tutorial of my wing board build:

Appletree has been making waterproof boards for a number of years, have yet to hear of any reports of delam.

My xps wing board is going on 4 months old, at least 40 sessions to as many as 80.  I have been rough with her and no signs of delam or failure.  A month or so ago I drilled a 1 inch hole in the deck to the bottom for a camera pole, once I pushed the pole in so far it pushed some of the skin away from the bottom of the board.  If anything was going to delam the board it should have been that.  I have since put some duck tape over the hole and kept riding it as is, no sign of delam or failure.

Van was in the shop for 6 weeks and I was throwing the board in the bed of a pick up truck with some wood scraps with bolts sticking out of them.  I would be terrified of doing that with an eps board.

Maybe I have just been lucky so far, and it is going to fail any day now.  My xps sup foil board is older with fewer sessions and it looks good as the day I finished it.  We will see over the next year how she looks.

For me there is a huge difference between the 1000 and 1200, so much I don't like winging the 1000 as the low end is way more work.  Going straight without waves and breaching, especially on the 1000, I have yet to feel this on a higher aspect foil.

Are you riding strapped and can't move your feet?  Short mast?

I can't remember the last time I surfed the east side, the breaks near the hook were sup tolerant and paddling up from Capitola seemed like a good way to be free of knuckle heads.  I hear of some foilers out on higher tides.

Also I am done with trying to stay low or hide what gear I like, and trying to manage peoples feelings.

I would get the adapter made, I've learned way more trying stuff like this than changing brands.

If that doesn't work I'd try a bigger thicker stabilizer.

In the long run I'd rather know why something didn't work rather than just give up on it.

When all that doesn't work is removed we are left with what does.

Current Weight:  10 lbs 1.3 oz

This board in a surf bag weighs 13 lbs which is still lighter than virtually all boards @ 128 liters.

Meaning that most boards have the board bag built ON TO THE BOARD permanently for ding prevention.

But I get to go to the beach and take off the 3 lbs of Unnecessary Bag weight.

Denton I am giving you more credit, the production boards close to that literage weigh 15-18+, so we are talking about a huge weight reduction, and reduction in materials.  Add to this most of the weight is under foot so the swing weight savings in the nose are extra huge.  I have found less nose weight on a 7' board to be night and day difference, I can only imagine how much more noticeable it is on an 8 foot board.

Yes.  Two man free handed, sorta accurate and kinda sketchy.

No they don't have bits or jigs.

I am about 7 sessions in and they seem solid as expected.

A setup like the future one shot would be much easier, maybe someone can make one?  Chinook told me the CAD file for the boxes is in the Shape3D library...
