Wow! Great job Robert. That's a heck of an accomplishment, especially on a 14.

If you watch this video, at the end, Frieberg explains how Google is going to cash in on Alpha fold 3.

Google is selling a program the researchers use. Proprietary software.  Big money.

https://youtu.be/nSM0xd8xHUM?si=RVmZdHr1kAEyPn4u&t=5382

I recently visited with my brother who is working on a new therapeutics project.  He was showing me some examples of the modifications that he is working with in Alpha fold and let me play with it a little bit, even though aimlessly. I honestly had no idea what he was doing, but he would explain it to me like I did. I asked him how long it would take a human to work through these kind of tasks, and he said that for some of it, there's no amount of time. It couldn't be done before this.

The really cool part is that the few hundred thousand people worldwide (guess) who know what questions to ask and are working actively on these problems are all using this one piece of software, and they are training each other. That makes me very hopeful for some remarkable products coming our way.

No, that was just me being goofy. I changed it to "foil-free" for clarity :-).  I did see that they just recently cancelled one of the downwind events here, but I have a feeling that that has a lot more to do with the wider economy than with our sports.  Ask the bike industry!

That image compositing is done in Photoshop by getting as clean selection as you can from a group of images and then using the one with the most suitable background to position them on, to hopefully show the action of the moment.  New cameras are pretty much magic and can capture a ton of in focus images.  Getting them separated out cleanly and getting them to mesh in with the background is a fun process.  Editing tools can be pretty helpful for clean images on clean backgrounds but it is a little trickier on busy backgrounds or where focus is blurred.

Hi guys, the Gorge has starting to warm up now and we are getting a lot of windy days.  I've been down at the Hatchery a few times shooting images and there is an incredible energy in the Gorge right now. It honestly reminds me of the early 90's. The foil has completely reinvigorated old and new windsporters and the foil-free crowd is just as stoked as ever.  This is a sequence I shot yesterday. I'll add more images to this post as I edit them. I also started a Flickr page recently for anyone who cares to see updated images and maybe some hummingbirds :-).

Classifieds / Help me with current pricing!
May 07, 2024, 11:31:17 AM
Hi guys,

We have a bunch of stuff that we purchased last year, that is in top-notch condition that we need to unload. I'm not quite sure what's going on right now with resale on this gear so maybe you can help me with some aggressively good pricing suggestions.

I have two V1 Nolimitz carbon masts at 76 for Axis.  Both are like new.

I have an F1 Swing 2.8 and a Strike 3.5.  Both are whatever version was newest last year.  They each have a handful of uses and are super minty.

I have a fanatic 4 foot 11 wing board in whatever they call their premium construction from last year. It is also in perfect condition with no dings or scratches or nicks.  It comes with a nice padded DaKine bag.

Thanks!

Rivian R2 looks really good to my eyes.  Smart price and solid spec, and a bit less than expected starting at $45K before tax breaks.  The R3 is pretty sweet as well (for less, although later).  Both should smell great.

The front end on this bike is really cool.  it is super active and it requires a lot of hip and torso to keep centered. It uses a Ride Engine kite harness and you need to clamp that thing down snug to make it all work.  I am loving it so far.

On the Rivian side I'm interested to see what they introduce today.  supposed to be a lower priced crossover to compete with the Y.  Also interesting to hear the Internet go nuts over Apple purchase rumors.

We are still completely completely stoked with our truck, but we really don't need a truck anymore so we'll probably sell that one and pick up the (full sized, 4 motor) SUV. That looks beautiful as well, and it will smell very new.

This is my new EV.  It came two weeks ago and so far I only have three days on it.  Man, is it kicking my butt.  Even in Turbo, my hills are a major workout.  Turns out arms are not as strong as legs. Who knew?  So fun though, and challenging as well.  The articulating front end is so cool.  Here a couple of vids.  My goals align better with the first.  :)

A friend just texted this image from down in Baja. I had sold him the two original swim missiles, and one of them ended up with this fellow. Reports are that he's killing it proning with hand paddles for downwinders. So stoked that it's going to good use :-).

Hey everyone, this is my first AI-generated post. I used Google's new AI help me write tool to write it. I'm super stoked to see how it works, and I hope you'll give me your feedback. What do you think?

Help me Write is available in Chrome M122, and it can be used in the United States in English. The feature can be enabled by signing into Chrome, selecting the Settings option from the three-dot menu, and navigating to the Experimental AI page. To use it, right click on any open text field in Chrome and choose the Help me Write option.

Utterly thunderstruck, and yet mildly underwhelmed. I actually know what he's talking about. It's equal parts super incredible (and oddly for Apple) kind of buggy and hole-ey. The fit can be done, but it is problematic. All those first GEN, first world problems :-).
