Title: Went for a paddle
Post by: tarquin on January 14, 2022, 06:31:34 AM
It was so good to get out on the water. Paddled out to the islands and had a picnic with my wife. It was great.

Looks nice. Had to turn my head down to the left, then it made sense:) Always good to get out with the wife and share the beauty of paddling.

Not sure why the pic is sideways.
A good reminder to always check the weather. I had looked in the morning and there was a 5-10 kts seabreeze forecast. We only had a 2 hour gap between work and picking up kids. So when we got to the carpark and it was glassy calm I didn't bother checking the weather again. On the paddle out I could see a wind line out too sea. OK thats the seabreeze coming in,keep an eye on it. By the time we got there,20 mins, there was already 10kts. The breeze filled in quickly all of a sudden. The quicker the seabreeze comes in the stronger it will be is what I was told by a very good sailor a long time ago.
So we have a quick sandwich and coffee, got told off because the sandwiches were rubbish, forgot the coffee cup and didnt bring any chocolate! Decide too stretch the legs and have a little walk before heading back. We walk over to the other side of the island and there is full on whitecaps and 20+ knots. A few little sailboats on their ear. OK we need to leave now! My wife just managed to get around the headland on her knees. After that is was downwind and she stood up and had a big smile all the way back. It must have been 25 knots when we got back. The carpark was rapidly filling with kites and wings as we left.
ALWAYS check the weather before you go for a paddle. Even if its a little jolly with the wife.

Now you’re in trouble, it sounds like you just signed up for your next winter project, downwind board for the wife :)
