Title: Building a Sliver 11’4”
Post by: Airfoil on September 26, 2021, 08:05:19 PM
So far I love the kit. You’re on your own for the skins either build in strips or laminate on a workbench and then glue it down in one piece.  I have a 7 1/2 inch fin box but they call for 10” not sure why would that be a concern? I am planning to start resawing and ripping strips from 12 foot two by sixes sold at Home Depot $50 a piece for (http://[img]]])[/img]beautiful Cedar

Looks like a fun project. Try and rip the cedar thin as will work to keep the weight down. When building a paddleboard, going as light as possible is always shoot for.

Looking good!

Only reason to go for a 10" box is to give you options later. If you're happy with the shorter, you'll be fine.

I would echo the view to go as thin as possible. You can always glass the inside for more strength if needed. I had my first board on the thicker end, thinking I could sand it down thinner but didn't. It ended up a fair old weight!
