Title: Wanted - Good Family Board
Post by: Kwolfe on August 26, 2021, 06:28:02 AM
Hey folks,
Been looking on clist and facebook.  Looking to get my buddy an all around cruiser for his beach place in NJ so his family can use it.  Needs to be at least 30" wide and stable.  Also, needs to be under $1000.

Thought I would ask the good folks here to see if anyone had something laying around they might want to sell.  I live around Harrisburg PA, but can make a drive for a good board.

Thanks

Composite or inflatable?

Oh yeah!  Composite only.  He really doesn't want inflatable.

Give Jim K a call at Extreme Windsurfing in AC, he might have exactly what you need.

He was actually the first person I emailed.  He has a Bounce board that seems like it would be really durable for sure.  Definite possibility.  I'll be racing in Atlantic City in 2 weeks to boot.

This one might fit the bill. 10x31x4 @150L. Carried my 200# @ss to remote breaks all while not a slouch in the surf.
A family friendly board by design, used to host my wife and niece (at the same time) on vacations.

It's a 2 piece (Carbon Compact - same tech that Sunova uses for their 2 piece) so will fit nicely in tight spaces.
Comes with a nifty carrying bag. I'll include high-end adjustable carbon paddle and a specialty Fiberglass Fin. All for $950

Those two piece boards are pretty cool by design.  I was looking for something with a little more length and volume for him.  I'm a little biased because I paddle a 14ft whiplash.  He has a 12ft Starboard touring board that he got as a damaged item at an REI outlet.  Fixed the dent with a gob of epoxy.  They really like that board.  They just want another so the one person isn't lonely.

I do have a 2 piece 12.6 :) very rare. it's 27 wide but has the Larry Allison 4Drive system so could be as stable as a 29" with the right fins (which I have).
Let me know if there's any interest. It's touring / race shape.

Just to wrap this up.  Found a board from a local place fairly close to me.  $600 and came with a used rental paddle.  Paddle is heavy as hell (aluminum I expect) so I'll be looking for a inexpensive fiberglass one.

Naish Quest 11'2" by 32".

Any suggestions on an adjustable paddle $100 or under that doesn't weight a ton?  I'm spoiled with carbon but something better than this.

Nice solid choice on the board.

Paddle wise I'd keep an eye on Craigslist, results depend on your local market for sure.

But here's a very decent paddle from a reputable company:

carbon/glass shaft, 87 square inch blade, leverlock - 70" - 86" range
