Title: Hollow wood paddle shaft

Finally got good joins the whole way along. This was my 3rd attempt. Mixture of Sitka spruce, Western red cedar and Paulownia. Round the edges off and see how strong it is. Its got some nice flex and really snaps back. Its 30mmx25mm.

Do you know the weight of the shaft?

I have watched that vid a few times. I tried this method. I only used Paulownia and it broke! I find with this method you don't end up with much hollow. So a lot of work for not much weight saving.
 The way I have done it is called a Birdsmouth join. Here is a link that explains how its done. He uses a table saw but I used a specific router bit.
 Didn't weigh it yet.

It weighs 340 grams. Its too long so a bit less when I cut it.
