Title: Want to downsize foil wing size..does fuselage matter?
Post by: Caribsurf on February 21, 2021, 12:37:41 PM
I am currently riding a Fanatic AERO 2000 foil with LONG FUSELAGE

I am now making most of my gybes and feel really comfortable and confident in winds from 12 mph to 30+.  I have a feeling my larger 2000 foil is slowing me down in high winds. It gets me up in minimal wind, but I think maybe in high winds it is not ideal. I want to go faster.

I want to stick with Fanatic and just change out front and rear wings and not buy new mast and fuselage.   I currently have the long fuselage 80 cm. ..will that fuselage still work if I switch out to a 1750 high aspect foil?  Any reason to get a shorter fuselage?   Thanks as always

I've no experience on the Fanatic foils, so can't comment on exactly how the long fuselage would work for this specific situation but in theory, a longer fuselage will offer more stability than a shorter one because it gives the stab more leverage to control the front foil. It will still work with a smaller foils and may even be desirable to give you a bit of a softer introduction to a new setup. You can always go shorter if you want to loosen it up later.

Ok thank you for the input. I'd hate to have to buy a new fuselage , and it's good that the foil is compatible with the longer fuselage.

Don't know nothing about fanatic foils but prefer longer pedestal on my gofoil setup. Short pedestal just makes things a little more pitchy so I would say longer is probably better if you are looking to go faster. The last thing you want for your setup to be pitchy while are flying fast. Just my opinion.
