Title: March Cost Rica Trip - Input/Suggestions?
Post by: SurfnCJ8 on February 21, 2021, 07:59:23 AM
Morning All. Couple friends and I are booked for a week in Costa. ( Hopefully it will still happen) Nosara, Playa Guinoes area. We have been there a few times but have only prone surfed. I am thinking I may want to try to SUP surf there for a day if I can find a decent, reasonably priced rental board and maybe a less crowded, easy wave to ride. Our entire group paddle surfs as well as prone surfs but our skills are not great. Probably somewhere upper beginner to lower intermediate level. Any input/info/suggestions from anyone who has SUS there is welcomed and appreciated.

Juan Surfos Surf Shop They should have a good selection.  www.Juansurfosurfshop.com They call the owner Spicoli.  He is super cool.  You might want to bring a travel paddle just in case they only have beater paddles and you are particular about the paddle.  Might also need to bring a good leash as well. He is close to the surf.  Que tenga un buen viaje.

Thanks, we have rented prone boards from there before. I'll check it out for a SUP. I think that there are a couple of SUP camps there as well. I wonder if they would do some type day package and rent a board and get us to a good break. I'll have to look them up and shoot an email or something.

Yeah, check with Chase at Blue Zone, they may, but it is probably dependent on if they have a camp that week or not. Nosara is really fun as you know, good break for a SUP too.

I would absolutely DM Jose Ruiz through Instagram.  Unbelievable surfer and sup surfer but more importantly a fantastic coach.  I spent a week with him and a few other instructors in Nov of 2019 through a SUP camp-levels were lower advanced to absolute beginners and he just could not be better.  Terrific guy and a local.  If he can't take you, I would be very comfortable with him telling you who to call. The camp I was with had all infinity gear from their big boards down through the Round Nosed Blurr range.  If it is big, he will be able to take you somewhere better for your group too.  You will have a great time-one of my favorite trips I have ever taken.

His instagram is supandsurf_Jose.  You won't be disappointed watching his footage on his IG too.  Feel free to reach out if you have direct questions too.
