Can we get an efoil section added to The Foil Zone?
-
They’re over on foil.zone building their own tow boogies.

I wonder how this self efoil towing could be better if the efoil wing was specifically designed for self towing instead of just using backwards wing.

Haha, yes, they have a whole forum so there’s that.

Interesting video. I'm not sure why he decided he needed a foil on the tow. I just take the foil off. My PVC pipe extension that the tow line feeds through off the back gives a lot more steering control and prevents the tow from riding nose-up. As you can see from this video once you are away from the tow it's invisible in any chop or swell. I had a hell of a time finding mine. His pumping ability overcomes the issue somewhat, but if he went a lot further away he might have trouble finding the thing. I put a flag on mine by splicing in an X connector and a T connector. The X connector has two short stubs to hold the T connector vertical. the T connector has the flag plugged in. The flag is probably required anyway.
Ultimately I want the thing to come get me once I've ridden the wave, but for now I'll settle for paddling back out to get it.
I gave up on my cheapo collapsable paddle, though I still tie it to the tow. Now I use Dave Kalama's paddle carry method--a strap so I can sling the paddle on my back

Somewhat expensive but very cool stainless U-bolt with a rubber base. the base seals the holes some and grips the pipe.

Installing. With the flag this has become a little more complicated. I remove the rope, push the pipe backward into the back u-bolt until the X connector and bracing stubs reach the u-bolt, then push the pipe forward into the front u-bolt and thread in the rope. A bit more of a PITA but worth the effort to have the flag.
Note the Spectra loops I added in the corners. These are for two-line steering, probably with a kite bar. I haven't tried it yet but I think it might be better for whipping me into a wave. The offset single line method works well but it's a bit slow. It does have the benefit of automatically turning away from me when I swing out to the side, kind of an automatic whip.

Here's the flagpole, now I just need a flag.
