Title: Gorge Question
Post by: Sam the Surfer on November 14, 2020, 07:02:00 AM
Hello!

So we are getting into winging and live in Spokane, Wa. We just drove to the Oregon Coast and passed Arlington on the way. It is about an hour closer to Spokane than Hood River and looked like a great place to wing. Any thoughts on winging in spots further east on the Columbia?

Ben

I'd go the other way and explore sand point and couer d'alene.

Haha but I really don't know anything about any of those spots

Bigmtn is pulling your chain. The eastern gorge is the best. Boardman, 3 Mile, Arlington, Roosevelt. Enjoy. Explore and report back.

3 Mile has the best swell in the Gorge when it is working.  Super remote and cool feeling.  You can wing there alone on many days in conditions that go way beyond epic.  Arlington and Roosevelt share the same water (opposite sides of the river).  Roosevelt is a beautiful park with grass, warm showers and stoked Canadians.  Arlington is not as cushy of a launch but it the swell is right there.  These locations are super consistent.  You may never make it to the central Gorge :).

We had a crew that would go to the Gorge every July 4th for 10 days.

3 Mile by far was my favorite - big swell and the wind seems more consistent out East.  Should be a great venue for winging.

Thanks for the responses. Where is 3 mile?

Thanks,

Sam, there's this thing called Google Maps...  Actually, it's called three-mile canyon and it's east of Rufus, West of Boardman. Desolate, fun, no services, scary when it's nuts, but great.

I know Tri-Cities and Walla-Walla sailors also sail at Port Kelly

Hi Sam,

The park is called Quesna County Park.  You go past the park on that little dirt road.  The launch is just past that dirt circle on the West side of the Jetty.  The most ridiculous swell is off the island which is upwind across the river.
