Title: 6.5 pedestal and 17.5 flip tip?
Post by: opie on October 29, 2020, 06:41:51 PM
I need a new mast for my Iwa, which I love, and my NL220, which I am still getting the hang of.  The pedestal tail combo that I have read about most often is the 6.5 and the 17.5 flip tip.  I would love any opinions on if this is the best combo and what the difference is between different tails and different fuselage lengths.  Thanks, Chris

I don't ride GoFoil, but yes the shorter pedestal should be preferred. The smaller tail is also going to be better since you already know what you're doing.

Thanks.  Since 17.5 Isn't available I went with the 14.5.  Makes sense that I will enjoy the smaller. :)

If you're handy with tools, skip the pedestal altogether.  You can drill two holes and install helicoils.  You'll end up with a cheaper, lighter weight, less drag, and slightly shorter fuselage solution.  I'm posting up about this in another thread now

I ride the short pedestal with the 14.5 and love it!  Turns so well.  Haven't tried the 17.5 though.
You do give up a bit of pump compared to the 18 but with practice I find that I can make up for it.
