Title: PSA - Waist Leash Management
Post by: VB_Foil on October 25, 2020, 01:25:22 PM
Just a warning to those, who like me, are generally too lazy to fix a waist leash that ends up between your feet.   If you are out riding head high waves, and your leash is routed between your legs, and you breach going 20 mph, your twig'n'berries (or lady parts) will become the new anchor point between you and your board.

I narrowly escaped a full on 'seeing stars' event when this happened to me last session.  Super exhausted and trying to avoid more time in the water, I ignored the leach routing around the front of my rear foot, through to the leash.  Caught a nice size set wave, breached and ejected off the nose for a 'graceful swan dive', and was still airborne when my retractable waist leash, which extends some 15-20', ran out of slack.  No bueno!  Even damaged the exterior of my wetsuit (which I'm very glad I was wearing).

Take the time to do the awkward rear leg lift dance to get the leash in place, or else!

It's way worse when your wing leash gets wrapped around your neck and you fall under the ledge of a wave. Not that I'd know, it's just something people told me. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Got my wing leash around my neck today too. But thx for the PSA. Hadn’t considered that potentially exciting twist.
