Title: Where do you place your extra handles ?
Post by: Kip on July 28, 2020, 04:20:24 PM
NEWB question here.
My blackfish has multiple points to attach extra handles and even came with an extra.
I'm just wondering where you all attach extra handles and for what purpose ?

The main handle is fine for me; I might not even put this extra one on. Just curious.

Cheers,

The handle mounts on the rails (forward of the regular center handle) are for in and out of the surf racing.

Watch some old Battle Of The Paddle footage on YouTube and you’ll see them used a ton.

I like the extra handle on my board and most of my paddling is on flat water. I have the extra handle on one of my ONE Sup’s and have just ordered one for my Blackfish. I find it helps me keep better control of the board when I am taking it in and out of the house (eg. - maneuvering in tight spaces). And although this might sound funny, I also find it makes it a little easier to get the board out of the water. I lift up on the extra handle and it helps break the suction of the board from the water. Yes, I know I can just put my knee on a rail and then grab the center handle, but for me the side handle is easier. Small things I know, but I do find having the extra handle more convenient.

I didn't put extra handles on my Blackfish, I dont see need for them.  and I think mounting points placed too much forward. The center handle positioned well for transporting. If I fall I usually "re-enter" from the stern , not from the side.
I had extra handles on my other board that I used for downwind-like conditions and surfing on point break and I liked to have that option as I was falling more often.
