Title: SUP surfing and bonefish fly fishing?
Post by: SUPvol on June 11, 2020, 11:34:45 AM
Any suggestions for a place to SUP surf and take a guide to fly fish for bonefish?
Even better if it is an all-inclusive resort to make the the wife happy - thanks

See today on CNN.com that the Maldives are lifting their travel restrictions in July. That location may check all the boxes for you, many resorts to choose from.

That  would be a tough one.  Hawaii is the only place I can think of right off the top of my head.

Others that would be more inconvenient.

The bahamas too, but that would require chasing some weather fronts in terms of the outer islands getting some swell.  Or one island for surfing and a boat ride to nearby island for bonefish.  Outer islands would be better for the surf, just check the bonefish availability.

With Cuba having a great bonefish population, maybe Puerto Rico but have not heard of bonefishing there. Might be worth a look for bonefish.  Some of the atolls in the Indian Ocean hold bonefish.  I know some down by Madagascar but the charters there were geared toward fishing and not surfing.  Maybe the Maldives.  I know there are bonefish towards the arabian pennisula.  There have to be some of the south pacific islands that hold bonefish. Those would also give good chance for both.

Duh.. forgot,  Florida.  It is only a couple hours between the Florida keys for the bonefish and central Florida for good surf.  Surf would be the weather dependent thing than the fishing.  But they are somewhat close without having to fly around the world.

That sounds like florida to me. I enjoyed fishing for tarpon and Bonefish, but it's a lot of work, and I'd rather catch a steelhead than a Bonefish. I know, thats appl;es and oranges, but there's nothing quite like Steelhead for action and if it's not a wild Steelhead then it's great eating. We don't kill the wild ones, just an occassional hatchery fish.

Thank you for this link. We have a trip booked to the Maldives next March. So far we’ve only put down a small deposit, and have until December to complete the booking. I wasn’t holding out much hope that we would be going, but if they are opening up now, I’m thinking we will have a better idea of what’s going on by December. Thanks again.

And sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread.

Thanks Jim. This is a trip that’s been on my bucket list for a long time. It is not a surfing trip though. This will be a snorkeling trip, which is another passion of mine.
