Title: Accent or Red Paddle?
Post by: Windwarrior on April 06, 2020, 09:21:44 PM
Howdy all!
Hope this finds you, your family and friends in good health!

I'm going to be buying a second board and I need some advice on which paddle would be best. If anything it may end up as a backup depending on how it performs compared to the Kialoa I currently use with my first board which I'm pretty happy with.

The two options I have to chose from are either the Accent Octane Carbon OR the Red Alloy. Both are 3 piece.

One thing that stands out for me is on the Accent and the ease of adjustment which has the same style as my Kialoa. I don't have a clue how the Red Paddle adjusts in comparison.

Oh and I'm landlocked so this is strictly lakes and reservoirs.

Other than that, any feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated. ✌

I have the Octane. Accent Octane all day. Much better paddle. Red's alloy paddles are good but much heavier with clunky pin adjustment.

LOL! I should've just asked you yesterday!

Never heard of Accents so I'm not sure. The place we talked about yesterday has the Accent as part of the package and several tiers of upgrades as well but then I found another place offering the same board with the Red Paddle option. Surprised that R.P. hasn't switched to the easier adjustment set ups.

I'm wondering about how the heck the 3 piece works though with the adjustment part.

The better Red Paddle Co paddles feature better adjustment options. Clamp with groove or LeverLock. Alloy uses the older pin system.

Handle section is one part of the 3, it slides into the mid section and blade makes the 3rd section.

I understand how the 3 pieces come together. What I DON'T understand since I have a 2 piece currently, is how the adjustment is made without all 3 pieces falling apart once the leverlock system is unlocked to make the adjustment.

I kinda got the idea after watching some YouTube videos on 3 piece paddles

Hey Julian! Since you have the Octane in stock, you mind taking some pics of the 3 connection points? The stock pictures I'm seeing aren't really that detailed.

Lower section is connected to mid section with push pin. LeverLock adjusts the handle.

Julian, which Red Paddle should I upgrade to if given the option for this package that is as light and has the better adjustment options? What price point?

I would go for at least the Red Paddle Co Carbon 50 or Carbon 100.
