The mast and the wing was broken i like to fix them and need help with how to us the carbon the best way to make it strong again
-
Broken mast seems extreme but I’ll leave it to other to pitch in as well.
First does your wing float so that if it breaks again you won’t lose your mast?
If i was fixing it I’d sand down and fair (fare?) it back 3-4” each way and take it down to the foam or whatever core it has. If it’s solid I’m going to goes you need to put a 1/4” of carbon at the deepest point and fare it to the top level 4” out. That will be a ton of layers of carbon (10?) but it’s just a guess.
I’d like to hear DW and Pono on this one honestly.
Also, bagging is a must. Check my aquarium pump bagging rig. Should be an easy search.

I can't tell much from the pictures. The tape is in the way. Cowboy's approach is good if the break is accessible. You're going to need more layers of carbon than you might expect and they need a few inches of overlap past the break on either side. You also need to get as much of the epoxy out of the matrix as you can, so prewetting on a table is necessary and bagging the laid up part is a must. You'll have adhesion issues to the existing carbon as well--the bond is going to be just mechanical. You need to fair back the break a lot, and expose the carbon layers down to the form, whatever that is.

I just do my best to glue it in place. I am going to vacom bag this i have vacom and all the things i need.i do not know what is the best way to put layers and how maney i could put one time one on the other.and if i shoul put some in 45 degree to the normal.
-
Vacom pump
-
Pill play.maybe
Cloth.to take epoxy out.
-
I cut this to make carbon the same size i just do no know if ther is limit to how much i could vacom in one time.i think i want to make twelve.
-
I send it to see the layers of carbon
-
Looking good. I’ve bagged at least 8 or 9 layers of carbon. Just wet it out on a table to keep it lean and then bag it with bleeder cloth
-
12 pieces of carbon.
Two are 45 degrees to the rest.
-
One bleeder cloth
Two cloth to take the extra epoxy away.
-
All twelve carbon together.and now vacom for maybe six hours.
-
I have 70 grams off carbon.and i made 120 gram of Epoxy
-
With the bleeding cloth
-
Looks good man. Thank you for the pics. Keep them coming.
-
When you start open the vacom and the pill cloth
-
One side without the bleeding cloth

The other side

Let it cure in a warm area (I use my car parked in the sun.) And I’d maybe leave a little overlap on the front and rear of the mast when you trim it. Even if it’s only 2 or 3mm, the chemical bond will help I’ll bet.
Looks good!
-
Thanks. For the help.
I like to trim it so it's round to the bottom to have bigger base.
I have to send it and have hot coat on it to try to make it nice.that's wher I am not good as I like to be.
I cover it and put it in the San today .and think it shoul have few days to cure but I do 7not know how Many
-
Looks good. The hotcoat is going to be just for appearance since pinholes won't matter. Don't over trim the parts, better to have it ugly and strong than pretty and weak. Don't get carried away sanding either. If you want to sand it smooth add a couple of layers of fiberglass to give you something to sand. If you cut the carbon threads with sanding you make it weak.
-
Maybe I should trim it send just little and put Glue Marble to finish it smoth and paint it?
-
Don't sand the CF. Do what Pono says. No need to v-bag (but you can). Just hand lay up 2 layer of 4 or 6 oz fiberglass. Don't even worry about the uneven transition. Lap the fiberglass over it to a point beyond the furthest edge of the CF. It helps to mask off the point where you want to terminate the repair. Before the epoxy kicks, take a razor blade and cut the excess glass off right at the edge of the masking tape. Then peel off the tape too. That will make a cleaner transition. THEN SAND! and paint...
BTW, You'll need to cut the CF. You could try R hand or L hand aviation snips and cut and arc. You can sand that edge to get a clean arc. Leave some of the sandwiched area to retain the strength.
-
To cut the carbon and sometimes fin box away from boards.smal very easy to work with
-
I try to be good sometimes i even close to it
-
Well, you sanded it a little ::) Not too much damage. You could just hot coat it at this point. Watch that razor edge. Maybe some glass will thicken the sharp edge of that arc. Sand it round.
BTW, this whole 'Shape Shack' category should be called the 'Quick Fix' because we are all masters of that. Getting back on the water is what is important. Proper technique.... not so important.

-
Yeah man. Put that in the water.
-
Hot coat one side.i would do the other side and paint it clesr paint to make my life easy.
-
Looks good. 8)

I'd never have thought to use a plastic food bucket as a resin trap. Great inexpensive idea.
-
Thanks to all the kid that broke it just as his father but it for close to 1000 dollars have gone with the foul to sea again.hop to have pic .thanks to all hop it help someone like me that just try to play the game of big child's.

Quite the Frankenstein you have cobbled back together but it just might work.
Your skills with Carbon fiber and vacuums far exceed your typing :)
