Title: Flat water 4 in 1
Post by: MLB on October 15, 2019, 08:21:25 PM
Looking for an all in one SUP board with foil and windsurf tracks.  Fanatic Stubby Foil 8'6" or maybe the F-One Papenoo which has two mounting positions for the foil, forward for SUP, all the way back for windsurfing.  Haven't seen another with that ability to this point.  But then I also don't know how much difference that makes in light wind, flat water anyway.  (Northern Indiana, inland lake)
Most reviews/videos focus on the boards surf ability.
Plan to wake surf it behind a jet ski to learn and then add the foil after I'm competent there. I really like the Neil Pryde Glyde setup. https://www.mackiteboarding.com/2019-neil-pryde-glide-kite-surf-foil-set/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw3JXtBRC8ARIsAEBHg4liZbzf18s687kiAHjiunMObxPUzjn235s4XIMdmIbK20cJCq3TwscaAhzOEALw_wcB (https://www.mackiteboarding.com/2019-neil-pryde-glide-kite-surf-foil-set/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw3JXtBRC8ARIsAEBHg4liZbzf18s687kiAHjiunMObxPUzjn235s4XIMdmIbK20cJCq3TwscaAhzOEALw_wcB)
Ideally plan to wind or wing foil mostly once I can actually do it!  LOL
Anyone with any input?

Sorry nobody picked up here, MLB.  As likely 98% coastal, your inland needs tho similar are probably not the same.  Hell, you're likely better off than many 'coastals' in that you have Mackite just north of you in Grand Haven.  I'd plan to arrive early, because 2 questions generate 4, etc...  They seem to have both a lot of kit and knowledge.  Good luck.

Those 2 (Fanatic Stubby 8'6 Foil Edition) is an excellent (Design, performance & construction) board but it is wave oriented in both SUP & Windsurfing modes
If you are looking for a more flatwater oriented 4 in 1 how about the Slingshot Flyer 280 Great Flatwater paddling, Light to med wind windsurfing and foiling. Haven't tried Wing Foiling on it but I bet it would work too.

If you are looking for equipment I offer a substantial discount to ZONERS.

No fins? Don't want a dedicated foil board.  Want to be able to paddle and wind surf without foiling.  And 280l?  I'm coming off a big Red Paddle Co Isup with that volume and I want my feet in the water and all that.  I"m struggling to get anywhere with the slingwing and all that 6" thick drag even when it's windy enough to be a b**** paddling upwind.

The new 2020 SIC Marlin Convertable Foil 7'8 looks amazing and can do all those water sports.

I saw the board at Paddleexpo in Germany (and I'm getting one for demo in Portugal soon) and it's looks amazing and super tough: Full PVC Sandwich with Co-Woven Kevlar/Carbon, double slotted Futures fin box tracks for plate mount system, quad fin setup, high density foam reinforcement around all boxes, track and inserts, mast location indicator, foot straps inserts, dual leash plug, deck pad with kick tail.

Specs: 7'8 x 29.5" (127 liters).

Looks very nice but I've never heard of them and don't see any internet presence for them in the usa.

You've never heard of SIC Maui??? Or this particular model? SIC Maui are one of the main SUP brands, and this model is obviously new, so presumably will be available soon. SIC boards are generally excellent.

The Marlin looks a like a nice shape. It's like a big sister of the custom Flying Dutchman 6.5x26.5 we have here.
Very nice board.

No, never heard of the brand.  And there are 2 (renters, no dealers) within 200 miles of me, so not that popular here. Big in Europe maybe? It certainly looks nice!

Well, I’m afraid that you don’t know much about SUP brands then. SIC Maui are one of the leading brands, and have been for many years. Their raceboard, called the RS is one of the most popular raceboards in the world, and they are especially famous for their downwind boards, which I’d guess have won more downwind races than any other, especially in the unlimited category.

SIC Maui are now distributed by BIC, so are available worldwide. The chief designer, Mark Raaphorst, is one of the most respected SUP shapers on the planet.

Make google your friend :)

Maybe that's why i asked?
  >:(
What are you, a shill for them?
Links to non-usa awards, right...........  ;)
Again, maybe big in europe?  (there was your chance to say "yes" instead of just being a jerk)

As I said, they have no real presence in my part of the USA.
No dealers within 200 miles of me and we live around hundreds of lakes.

So maybe go google yourself silly.

I didn't think about it when I first read your initial post, MLB...  My 8-8 Sunova Skate has one of those poleboard slots.  Sunova can make you anything you want. Most of these guys don't realize that a shop 'inland' does not carry one or more of each.  They are not https://www.surffx.com.au. Almost anything, that specific, will need to be ordered - you do not want to start down the road of a screw, glue, and stick-on disasters.  I am a costal, I have never seen a SIC, but they do have a great name.

A good call would be to Jimmy Lewis.  https://jimmylewis.com. I feel I missed something by not getting one of his boards.  I gather you can actually speak to him, and I do know he ships all the time.

Another great link is Robert from BluePlanet.  https://www.blueplanetsurf.com.  None of those big name brands work as hard to provide good product and service as Robert.  He puts it on plane and you have it in a couple of days.  He sent me a 10-6.

Odd. I am relatively new to SUP - coupla years. I am only 150 miles inland. so maybe there is a bigger presence. When I paddle with groups on lakes around here, if a paddler is on a composite hard board that isn't rented there is probably a 50% chance it is either a SIC, Starboard or Boardworks.

I’m 6-8 hours inland. Nearest SIC dealers From me are 4 hours one way and 3 hours the other. A couple bullets around here (quite a few SIC models in the okanagan)but most shops inland In B.C. are dropping their high end brands, including SIC. Big move to shops paring right down and carrying only one or two brands catering to the recreational market. One SIC dealer at a shop in the okanagan told me they are selling inflatables at a 10-1 clip compared to their hard boards and the recreational hardboards are what’s moving for the composite market. The high end niche market is dying quickly and shops are done with sitting on inventory inland here.

Ended up ordering a new RRD (Robert Ricci Designs) Hi-Flight, 2020 model with both tuttle box rearward and twin track forward.  :)

MLB your handle reminds me I'm missing (major league) baseball...

But back to business: Very nice with the RRD!   I checked it out and it looks great.  Did you go with their foil system too? Or the Neil Pryde?

NP Glide.  A choice I'm regretting now as they don't 'have an XL wing despite saying it's coming for the past year.
