If that name sticks....I’m giving the sport up.
We better get unified quickly on what it’s going to be called.
-
Possibly the same guy that named Surf Boy Wings came up with "Hand Kite". But...everyone else could call the sport Trumping and I still wouldn't quit.

How about “Water Wing”?
-
Dwight... don't even 'think' that. Look at the high level of respect 'handboards' get. There's a thread at SURFER that started with that (what you said) in the heading ...' runs 6 pages.
IO's seems to have mentioned a great neutral handle. I hope the mfgrs. adopt that.

I like "Wing Foiling" the best.
-
I got a name for it but I will not reveal because it can be used by other marketing names and give them a great advantage.

WingDing 8)

WingDing 8)
That is what I use :D
-
wingading thing, that seems to be sticking around where i am.
-
Always a challenge. I remember when Stand up Paddle boards started being call SUPs, I think it was Clay Feeter that hated the name and tried to get people to drop it. I didn't think it was a great name either but couldn't think of anything better.
So here's the issues as I see it.
It's not a kite.
Calling it Wing Foiling doesn't make sense since it isn't necessarily connected to foiling.
Just saying wing is confusing since it gets confused with the foil wing.
Wind Ding, Swing, are not descriptive and probably won't stick.
Surf wing leaves out other uses. Water wing is for three-year-old kids.
Hand Wing is descriptive but sounds kind of funky. But that's about as good as I've thought of.

Windwing
-
Wingsurfing for the sport, Wing for the holdable.
-
FRP ...has it. WingWing. It's universal. Land, sand, SUP, surf or foil - friendly.

wet typo?
i like windwing, too
-
Windwing is a great name but it was a windsurfing sail brand for a long time.
-
FRP ...has it. WingWing.
"Hewwo?"
-
Call it what it is, wingsail
-
Change the whole forum category to Wind Wing and lets all just call it that, until it catches on.
All us old Windsurfers will just have get over it being a sail brand. The rest of the world doesn’t have this issue.
-
Mmmmmmmmmmm - Wings!
-
Call it what it is, wingsail
Not a sail. So... ...no sale.
I like wind wing, though it seems a little off. The windsurfers on foils call their sport windfoiling. If we use wind wings on foils will that be wind wing foiling? I feel my inner Elmer Fudd trying to take over.

Winging...
Foil winging...
Standup winging...

I'd vote for Free Wing.
It's the simplicity and spontaneous nature of the sport that drew me in. Always wanted to do wind sports but the cumbersome equipment was off-putting.
Now FreeWing Foiling, FreeWing Surfing or just FreeWing Cruising became immediately available to me just by adding the Free Wing.
Maybe by adding Free to the wing it will encourage companies to lower the entry price so that kids or maybe just the kids in us will take to it.
Addition: When we refer to activity, the wing doesn't even have to be mentioned. You'll be a free foiler, free surfer etc.
-
woah! Free Winging, I like that one.
-
Freewing +1
Perhaps it will improve my chance of getting one into my garage! “It was Free”

What ever is decided, I'll continue to call it "wingding".
-
nuther contender from frp
freewing
tough call vs
windwing
-
My vote would be for "Wind Wing".
-
Wind Wing is good and fits in many ways.
But "Free Wing" ... Is really kind of perfect! It's got my vote also.
"Wingy Dingy" will be around regardless of what else it's called :D
-
Yeah, I like free wing, and it's descriptive enough to work. No mast, no strings=free wing. Hand Wing sounds like an adolescent sex act.
-
I like really like a chicken wing ::)
-
Me too, preferably traditional Buffalo style, but I like them extra crispy. Now I'm hungry.
-
What ever is decided, I'll continue to call it "wingding".
Me 2

Freewing is a grat description of the sport but probably surfwing would be more appealing (and sounds better).
-
Wingnuts........just sayin....has a nice ring to it.
