Title: How does everyone transport their boards and foils to the beach?
Post by: Caribsurf on September 16, 2019, 03:42:14 PM
Would love to see how everyone is transporting their boards and foils to the beach?  I saw a few creative bicycle set ups on this forum, but for the average car or SUV  (not van) how do you do it?  Do you assemble and attach the foil each session and remove after?  Put it on the roof racks assembled?

thanks for your suggestions

I put the foil with 90 cm mast connected in the back and put the board in separate, then connect them at the beach.

For windfoiling I was able to keep board and foil connected, but without the mast base to hold onto I can't lift it into my car still attached to the board.

When connected the foil would hang out the back but it is a short 10 minute ride to the beach so that was OK and it saved time.

If anyone has a suggestion on lifting the SUP foil board with foil attached easier I am interested. The mast base and straps on my Windfoil board were great handles too.

One idea is https://www.northshoreinc.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=251 but I am not sure on the downside of this. I imagine if I am falling and hit it that will hurt more than just landing on the board, so if there was something temporary I could use for transportation or even getting in and out of the water it would make my life easier.

I also have used this to help transport my regular SUP board and it works great even when wet.

However, I could not figure out where to place it to lift my board and foiling into the car as it does not work on the padding on the deck.

Carib,

What kind of Foil do you have?  That may decide what you need to do.  With the Axis Foils we leave the masts on the boards and the wings on the fuselages.  That means only two screws to attach the fuselage to the mast and we are ready to go.  That is very quick.  With the GoFoils the fuselage is fixed so we needed to take off the wings (mallet and screws).  One of our boards goes in the hatch, the other on the roof.  This is a Subaru Outback.

Hey Admin  I ordered a Fanatic Aero 2000 foil and it should be here next week. I’ll be taking it down to the Caribbean  eventually where I transport my boards with a MULE  from the back of a Honda ATV.  I can probably tow the board and foil connected, but I was thinking more for when I am in Florida and  Maine and drive a Honda CR V.

On Maui I stick it on the roof of the roachmobile with the foil attached. Makes it easy to find in the costco parking lot. It's fine as long as I don't try to pull into a fast food drive through.

It looks like your Fanatic Aero will also allow you to keep the wings on the fuselage and attach that to the mast with 2 screws.  If so, that is very fast and easy.  You should be two screws away from riding.

Thanks Admin, this sport and gear is all so new to me, I wouldn’t have known that.
That sounds pretty convenient. Chomping at the bit to get my board, foil and wing and all “ supposed” to arrive next week.

Just shove it in the back of my car. The new 6 8 Smik fits better.
