Title: Sticky Foot Straps?
Post by: Admin on July 30, 2019, 02:35:42 AM
I had put some footstraps on my board and loved the feel.  The only issue was that the front strap was a bit too far back (no inserts further forward) and it was making it hard to level out.  I pulled the straps off to confirm that and I know where I want them now.   I am going to try two angled front straps (windsurfing style) and see how that goes.  Any experience out there with the stick on's.  Are they reliable?

I used the NSI stick straps for many years kitesurfing. They never failed me. Although they do use tiny screws that seize easy, so treat them as such. Tef-gel maybe.

Angled straps are good. It’s what happens to the front foot naturally when surfing strapless. It angles 45.

I too used the NSI stick-ons, and Bill's method here to attach them....

Lots of people use them. They have to be applied to very clean, smooth fiberglass. The trick is to clean the area with very fine sandpaper--as fine as you can get, a rough surface is bad, a dirty surface is worse--clean with alcohol and let dry, then stick them EXACTLY where you want them with 20 pounds of weight on them. Leave them overnight. You won't be able to remove them without damaging the surface if you do all that. The adhesive strength more than doubles.

...and agree that they ain't coming off w/o prolly taking some of the glass off with them.

I used the nsi adhesive mounts for years, only had one come up when I got impatient and didn't give it enough time to bond and screwed a metal plate on it which was pulling up on it with 24/7 force, and then gorilla glue fixed that.

You can see my sticky mounts here, I kept adding more as I tried different foils and foot positions:

Scrape off with knife then clean with Benzine - takes off the left over glue without damaging board.

You won’t know what is required until you remove the pad. Some Chinese built board have some kind of glue that is rock hard and sands off. Others have the PSA that is much harder to get every bit of residue off.

Lots of chemicals and hard work  :D
