Title: Will foils do M2O next year?
Post by: peterp on July 29, 2019, 11:53:33 PM
I certainly hope so - it was spectacular to watch the live drone footage from Ocean Paddler TV with Travis Grant commentating.

But, it's called the Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard World Championship and as Grant noted at one point:" They don't seem to be using their paddle much...."

I believe there has already been some mutterings from the prone paddlers about the suitability of fois in this race and the 2hr delayed start was possible done to try and deny the foils stealing all the thunder.

But steal it they did, with blistering pace, surfing and pumping their way across the channel......paddle in hand.

If they don't do it on the same day, I'd imagine the foilers would just do it on a different day. It was fascinating to watch.

The bigger challenge I imagine is there were only 16 people involved in it to begin with. Will there be enough people who want to do it?

I imagine there are at least a few who had to make a choice between racing SUP and foil who would do both if they were on different days.

I would leave it on the same day but if it gets too big then a week would be enough to rest those tired bodies  :)
