Title: Jimmy Lewis Cruise Control 11’
Post by: spirit4earth on May 19, 2019, 10:32:08 AM
I don‘t have an on-the-water report yet, but I did get the rail tape on my new board.  No big deal, I know, but for me it is!  😄😄. We had a blackberry winter, then I had to work, so it took a week for me to have time to do it.  It’s not a perfect job, which bothers me, BUT no one else will notice u less they’re really looking.  The worst thing is that I couldn’t get out a smal black hair (darn cat) that’s pretty close to the “J” in Jimmy Lewis.  Aaarrrgghh!  I, of course, will see it EVERY time I look at the board!  Maybe the little hair personalizes the board?  Although the tape isn’t on there perfectly, I know it will provide some bit of protection so I can take it out now.  Probably tomorrow.  If it paddles as good as it looks, I’ll be stoked!

s4e,  You shudda lernt by now this place is full of X-perts who can tell you which <.5" trailer fin will improve their off-the-lips 80% and loosen up their bottom turns 27%  ...but, without photos, it's all Wizards of SUP talk.   Let's see it!

Think of that hair as the imperfection that’s purposefully woven into oriental rugs, so as not to purport to be perfect in the eyes of god...
Hey I’m just repeating what I heard  8)

So funny, you guys!  Maybe one day I’ll making calculations about fins, rocker, etc, too!   Yeah, I just have to laugh.
Wetstuff, do you want a picture of the hair??  Haha.  I did email pics of the board on the roof.

Disinfected? Are you kidding? That board is ruined! Ruined, I say!

Allow me to take it off your hands and dispose of it in an ecologically responsible manner.

I'm afraid my predecessors really underestimated the severity of the situation.

This is the equivalent of a radioactive and will require some next level treatment which I'm in a position to provide.
door to door service of course, I'll unload this problem off your hands in no time.

Listen buddy, I said I would dispose if it. This is a hazardous situation here, and it requires highly skilled disposal system. Do not put yourself at risk. We professionals can handle this.

Some people take their dogs out on the SUP, now you can take a little bit of your cat, every time. Board looks nice, congrats.

Thanks!  My dog will go out, too, after I’ve paddled it a few times.

Waiting for first paddle report. Look at the cat's hair as a good luck charm. Congrats again!

Looks nice, s4e.   Jimmy Lewis deserves, by all measure, more exposure around here.

Spirit!
Congratulation, you got yourself a great board, and I am sure it will treat you well  :)

Taping, like anything is an acquired skill, which improves with practice.

Enjoy your new freedom machine and if it is Railsaver Pro, you can just pull it up and reposition it after removing kitty dander.

I can’t give a good paddle report because I’m too much of a novice!  You could all paddle the heck out of this board, though.  I went to a nearby lake.  There was a little wind, so there were ripples, which were a pain.  They created a vibration in my calves!  I’d rather have some little waves or boat wake.  It paddles GREAT.  I don’t do it justice.  I couldn’t focus well on paddling technique because I was just trying to stay upright.  Forget about moving my feet!  I’m looking forward to going out after Memorial Day, when the “lake people” will be there with their boats.  It’ll be good practice, with lots of falling in.
One thing that bothered me was that the pollen on the lake actually stained the white bottom of the board.  I couldn’t hose it off until I got home, and of course by then the sun had baked it, but alcohol got most of it off.  Has anyone else had a similar problem?  Solutions?
I also think I might shorten my paddle.  I need to remeasure, but I think it’s at 10” over my height.  I might go to 8”.

It’s a great board, and I hope I can shift my feet one day, and maybe even get in surf stance!

Ps—I also want to buy a scale so I can monitor its weight.

All boards can develop problems, of course. But the build quality and construction of the JL boards is the best available. So unless you are extremely unlucky or extremely careless, this board should just go on and on.

Those ‘magic eraser’ sponges are your best friend. They are abrasive but only slightly.

Here’s some nice footage of the board surfing:

I’ll get some of those sponges.  I wish I could surf like that!

That's exactly why your report counts! I may miss things that will be important to a novice, so your point of view
might offer some useful insights. Let us know how shortening your paddle affected your experienced with the board.

Thanks burchas!  It’s a great board.  It weighs 22.6 lbs.  I managed to get most of the pollen stain off, but since it’s painted with automotive paint, I might use some “waterless wash” on it.  Maybe some Quick Wax?  I don’t know....
