Title: Fin Cam
Post by: stoneaxe on April 29, 2019, 09:37:06 PM
Pono had a 4K moka cam that he wasn't using and I brought it back from Maui with me. Made a mount on my fin. Took it out today with hopes of catching some whale song. Right whales 300 yards off the point below my house and feeding just off my local beach. Didn't pick up any whale song...choppy so it was pretty noisy but the mount and cam worked fine. Should be fun to catch some underwater action when it's calm and the water is clear.

Did you notice any "drag" (slowing the board down) from the camera after a few test rides? Seems like there would be.

It should be fine. Maybe a little added stress on the fin box. Here's a picture I took last summer snorkeling at Waimea Bay with my hand held GoPro hero 5. I wasn't moving to fast, but I was moving. It was a bright sunny day and you can see how dark the bottom looks at only about 6' deep. Maybe point it more forward, otherwise it might just be a lot of dark shadows. Those cameras typically don't do well in low light situations.

I saw a guy with a gopro mounted in his center box running quads.  I thought maybe he was trying to film our local leopard shark colony.
