I've been riding my custom from dwight for the last 4 months, more than 20 sessions in all kinds of waves with either IWA or Maliko 200. The board has been a huge upgrade over the converted SUP I learned on. Now that I have it dialed in, I finally got around to installing foot registration features into the deck-pad. After thinking about it for the last few weeks I think I came up with a really nice method. First a couple photos of the finished product:

This photo pretty much shows the process all in one shot for those of you who are impatient. Trim the bump pad to round its corners, trace its outline on plywood, use a jigsaw to make a router template. A bearing guided router bit will cut a clean pocket into the existing deck pad. This way the edges won't peel up and the edges end up flush with the existing pad.

Cut out the screw holes with a hand-held hole punch like the ones here:

I installed stainless fender washers underneath the bump pad, so they are captured in place. The holes are just big enough for the screw heads.

For the front one I chose the raised oval pad and trimmed it with scissors.

measured out the centerline and marked my front foot location (25" ahead of the back foot just like Beasho discovered)

Nice looking board from Dwight! Nice write-up from Jondrums!
I have a similar fixture for routing in Bahne boxes where I can stack and unstack the fixture to increase the depth of cut while keeping the cutter's bearing on the template. The whole mess is registered/attached to the board with double-sided tape.
There is something satisfying to figuring out these types of fixtures.

I had Dwight install kiteboarding handle inserts. Its been great - all my boards have always had the glue-on ez-plug handles - the kiteboarding handle has been even better. I have a lot more control of the board in the turbulence.
