Title: paddle as hand plane
Post by: outcast on December 03, 2017, 05:00:59 PM
Leash plug pulled out....swam with the paddle again....

I am getting used to swimming with the blade first, and trailing the handle.....................

counter- intuitive ......It's still a pain i the ass, but easier to stroke with, and then if you get a white water boost, it is MUCH easier to use as hand plane body surf,  and gain ground Vs trailing the blade   Last time i did it, was almost by accident.  This was a consious decision, and i will use this from now on
Short paddle and small blade help

Plug was on Laird hybrid....the epoxy does not appear to have penetrated the shelf on the plug, and may have been dropped in too late during the cure

Hope you don't ever have to try it :)

Loop near the pocket on my boardshorts. Hook the handle to it and swim normally.

When a leash breaks it seems to choose the worst moment, usually meaning a long swim. The last time the length of the swim was greatly hindered by the one arm stroke. I now have a little loop I can hook somewhere.

I have not had any success using a paddle as a hand plane.  Not saying it can't be done, just not by me.

The very few times I've been separated from my board in the surf and have had to swim, I have simply thrown the paddle like a javelin.  I've seen the loop idea before, seems like a great idea.

Tried swimming using the blade in my hand - couldn't do it well -
then tried throwing the paddle - ok, but not so great.

I like the paddle loop I sewed on the waistband of my board shorts a whole lot better,
but I didn't have it if I was wearing a wetsuit.  Ha! another advantage of the waist
leash - I sewed a paddle loop on the waist leash, so good to go even with a wetsuit on.
