Was it any good?

That  depends  on  if  you  like  seeing  a extrordinary waterman  ride exceptional  waves  on all  types  of  wave  riding  vehicles

No story just that?  Unfortunately we see it in the flesh here so having to sit somewhere and watch is hard duty.

I unfortunately did not watch it...so no idea. I was a bit disappointed in The SUP Movie they did through kickstarter. It is amazing to watch the skill but I can get that on youtube.

the cinematography and editing was pretty good...worth the watch....i think the PoorBoyz had a hand in it? or was that something else i saw lately?

i didn't like the primary surfing marketing appeal...all the other genres were  treated as gratuitous:  windsurfing kiting padding.foiling.....i get that that's where RedBull market is and it's the only "PURE"  form.   Don't recall a longboard, and nah the story wasn't really there

SUP the movie was better though..storyline: friendship and travel fun....this was more about skill set...the Paradigm Lost theme was supposed to show that it ain't what you ride....but ....it failed in that way

Drone footage is here to stay though, and that you can't get while on the water...the perspectives are pretty cool

There was less story and travel than in the SUP Movie? (Poorboyz did that too)

I know what you mean. My self, I'd rather do than watch, but it is free and you can fast forward all you want. I enjoyed it but probably won't watch it again.

There was minimal story, I agree. It's weird that at this point they are still telling Kai's story over and over. Next film needs some travel and more purpose.

But it's great to see him go and I loved it. I'm not as mad about the focus. I think his challenge is to be seen as a "real" surfer but we need to remember that SUP wasn't his starting point and it most likely won't be his end point. It's a dot on the graph.

I loved the kite and windsurf footage, as I haven't really seen as much of that and seeing all the pro surfers get on foils and act like kids was fun. Nothing sadder than when a passion becomes work and the tour seems like a grind a lot of the time.

Next time, keep the shooters and even the editors but hire a good story producer and they will make an even better one.

I  liked  that  they  pointed  out  that  a bunch  of  windsurfers  moved  to  the  north  side  of  maui  in  the  80s. Their  kids  grew  up  there  doing  all the  water  sports  and  are now the waterman  stars .

I reckon if we move to Maui you'll do some watersports or the lot like Kai.

Was actually very hard duty for me.  Watched a bit at the beginning then did the FF skip and view for a few seconds at a time.  Then said enough of that.  Real nice footage on some waves -> but kinda got bored pretty quick.  So off and went paddling.  That was a lot better for sure.

I'm surprised people are commenting now that the video is gone.

I will say "It was Excellent"

Probably some of the best surf / waterman cinematography ever.  Great budget, great content.

Given the current passion for Foiling here is the foil segment.  If there is anything that Kai may be eventually associated with it will likely be the low speed adaptation of foils to surfing.

Dave Kalama and Laird tried with big waves and jet-skis.  Too bad the potential audience was ~ 12 people.  This will be much more impactful:

What was more interesting to me by far was your comment ->

"Foiling is easier to learn than: Skiing, Windsurfing, SUP wave surfing, Shortboarding or Kiting.  It may be similar to snowboarding’s learning curve."

Def SB is very easy to learn.  Was self taught and took my instructor's course after 40 hrs.  Passed easily even tho the head instructor at Whistler told me I needed over a years experience.  Was able to teach newbies how to turn ok after a couple hours.  Super easy peasy SB is.

If the foil gets to the point where you can get up and going in our slop and chop -> then that might be something to seriously consider.  Hmm?  Might need to check that out with the lads round these parts.

This is Eric getting his foil up on flat.  But Kalama looks to be cruising pretty good at Hood.  Interesting.

The video of Eric looks like pogo stick on the water. Adjustable paddles might make sense for SUP foiling.

With the quality and quantity of free surf content this paid model is at last gasps if not already dead.

Haha!  ^ Yeah looks real silly gotta agree.  But he needs a bit of extra lift.  Not my idea of style and grace.  Looks dopey.  Boingy boingy.   But in the Hood vid a guy compared it to powder skiing.  So that piqued my interest.

Powder skiing is crap on skis vs on a SB.  SB rules for powder.  Just tip and go.  So smooth and free.  Which looks a bit similar on a foil without pumping.  Taught skiing for many years -> then both once SB came on the scene.  For me ski on hard and SB in powder.  So no matter what -> you always have the best setup for the conditions.  Mega fun always.  But SB in deep pow is what winter is about for me.  Like floating on a cushion of ice cold air.

Now if future SUP foils can compare on water in our varied conditions -> that would def be something of interest.

Thanks for posting that Beasho! Cool clip. Had fun watching. Damn though- I keep trying to ignore it, but this is one more little push to trying out foiling. Think what makes me hesitate is a fear of unleashing my chronic OCD on what I know will likely be an obsession.

As for Laird and Kalama- I'd respectfully submit that mostly what they were trying to accomplish was exploring life/the world through play. From where I sit, seems they've always been and still are madly successful. Kai too. However his play being more heavily financed.... there are more blatant incentives toward "promoting sport/equipment" by his sponsors. Dream scenario for him though! Cheers!

I really enjoyed it, even got the wife to watch and she too enjoyed.

That said, it pales in comparison to "View From a Blue Moon" By John Florence IMO.
http://viewfromabluemoon.com

The latter just sets the bar very high when it comes to cinematography, editing
and soundtrack, even though it's a surf specific which is less appealing to me in general.
