A friend just sent the 1st pic
Heavy rain last night caused the collapse of the cliff/dune edge
A car was parked there, but no one in car at the moment of collapse.
Thank God it is a rainy day or there would have been a LOT of cars and people there.... and below on the beach.
That beach and the bar are ALWAY busy..... Beach always packed under that part of the cliff.
Good fortune on the timing of this! Hopefully they won't discover someone was under that :'(

Now that is scarry. :o
-
Yikes, that right where a CCBC paddlers truck was parked all day Sunday.

Well, you never know where and when the next good sand bar for surf is going to show up.
It could be really good straight out in front next year. So there is that.
-
wow- stood exactly on that spot many times over the years. scary
-
Coulda sand-surfed a porta potty all the way to the water.
-
Love to see the look on the car owners face. Shhhhiiittt! My car! I mean nothing you could do but watch.

That could have been a pretty ugly party wave for sure. Good to hear, no injuries.

Are those two different cars??
-
Can you imagine being two teenagers using that spot for submarine races and all of a sudden....
-
One car.
and it wasn't the only beach.... other beaches lost paved parking areas when the rain waters washed into the bay as well.
Sunny and warm today. Everyone is back on the beach! (cept the Comber beach.... closed indefinitely)

Wow thats going to put a major dent in Beachcombers end of summer business.
-
They will have that place filled in, up and running in less than the week. Look on the bright side, one less New Yorker on Cape roads
-
"One less New Yorker"? I resemble that remark.
-
Cape is in the news lately...

One of the fundamental realities of pavement on sand, especially on a hill or cliff. Sooner or later it's gonna go unless it was built with lots of very trick drainage and soil stabilization tech up the wazoo. The pavement holds the top together while the sand under it gets thinner and the grains get rounder from being bounced around in water. Then boom.
