This is pretty cool to see. Here is a guy with more normal skills making it work on a downwinder.

He kept it going but looked like Elaine dancing on Seinfeld.
Of course, as you know, the French invented foiling.. and almost everything else.

That is no "Average Guy." He has a chase boat, is associated with the Horue website and has garnered 12,000+ hits in less than a week.
Probably some French genetic cross-breed of Pascal Make and Antoine Albeau.
Clay pulling this off could suffice as a 'normal guy' but I am highly suspect of this guy's mutant skills. Notice too it looks like he is riding a Kite Board and this does not show how he started. Was he towed in?

The nice thing about the vid for me is that it's a real camera, not a fisheye gopro. I can sorta figure out what's going on with gopro stuff downwind - I shoot myself and use memory to adjust my perception to the massive distortion.
Also, I need actual speed for downwind video. But that's just how my eye has developed over the years. No criticism to others - slow motion seems popular - it must be enjoyable and that's great.
But this vid is easy for me to figure out. That wind is strong. Good fetch too, those are big, wide swells. Like Beasho said, IMO, that's an experienced, strong athlete. Those are fast swells he is chasing.
IMO, Kai makes it look too easy. All I see online are pros with escort boats. Nothing wrong with that, I like watching teams tow in to Jaws too. Personally, I'll never foil downwind. It looks easy, but so does walking a slack line. No thanks.
Foils will smash all the channel records and I'm anxious to see it. I hope they get invited to some races this summer.

This guy hardly average.

I'm sure everyone has seen this, but if not...
Dave is the man. "Think about riding a unicycle then add the up and down motion."
