Yesterday's Buffalo Surfing Classic at Makaha beach was a lot of fun. Our Blue Planet SUPsquatch team with Sam Pa'e as steersman got some great rides and actually made some nice turns on the face. This video also features some foiling (there was a foil exhibition at Makaha the day before which I missed), canoe surfing, paipo boarding, long boarding and more, check it out with footage from the beach, from the air and from the water:

The contest will continue next weekend, hopefully I'll get some more good footage.

Great video footage.
At the beginning of the video, I would have loved to sup surf those perfect waves for a ride that lasted quite a long time.
Thanks for sharing the video.

Oh man, that was awesome.

Oh man, thanks a lot, smiling. Makaha is the nicest beach, respect the people, what a wave.

Hey Robert, I've surfed that left as well. It's trickier than it looks.
Man those outrigger guys were ripping the backwash.
I've been lucky enough with my travels to have surfed all the continents and then some, makaha is my favorite spot.

Wow, that's hilarious. You guys have demonstrated that SUPsquatch CAN be mastered, although it vaguely resembles a dugout-less dugout technique with lots of floundering.
I liked the guy hanging off the back who acted as a rudder. I can hear the arguments, "YOU be the rudder. No, I was the rudder last time, YOU be the rudder!"

Thanks, yes Makaha is an awesome wave and getting to ride it uncrowded during the contest is the best.
The guy in the back is the steersman, the most important person on the board. Sam was steering the board and was yelling instructions: Lean right, lean left, lean right and we would all jump onto the opposite rails to do those turns, it's hard to believe that you can do a cutback on a 16' x 55" board but it works if everyone coordinates.
Hopefully we will get to go out for more heats next weekend.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. Spent some time paddling on the west side late last year and had a great time. Met some terrific people and caught an epic day at Pokai Bay, but never felt 100% comfortable. Different world out there for sure.

This is a bucket list event for me for sure. I need to mark it on my calendar as it coincides with my yearly Winter freak out where the rains keep me out of the water for a month or two and I lose all muscle mass.
Love the big board and I'd love to see more event footage. Link us if you can and I'll start looking at YouTube for clips. Thx for shooting it. That event really captures why I surf.
