Who rides one? Whats the learning curve like? Am I crazy to
think of getting one while I turn 65 in a few months? Would it serve the
carving need when the surf is crap?
As to experience, I have surfed since 12, skateboarded before to around 35 or so,
windsurfed since the 80's.
Do these skills help? I would start out with lots of padding.

My buddy has one. He rides it up and down the beach when he can't surf. Learning curve is one day. Battery last one hour.

Love my OW, and yes it's easy to ride. If anything 1T, you are overqualified...

I got one at the Outdoor Retailer show and it was pretty easy to learn how to use it. The trickiest part is getting off as you have to take your foot off the touch sensitive pad to deactivate it. It's a great way to get around the neighborhood, good fun.

Aside from simply shuffling the front foot off the sensors, another clean way to dismount is to simply pick your heel. Remember, you only need to disengage from one of the two sensors on the front pad.
For anyone riding for the first time, if you really have a hard time dismounting, just jump off with both feet at the same time.

Life's too short and you only live once.. Just do it.. but remember us old guys don't bounce when we fall like we used to when we were younger..
I recommend you watch this vid.. and always wear a helmet and wrist guards.. and start off on grass because you probably will fall..

More info about that vid here.. http://community.onewheel.com/topic/4222/crash-analysis
I have mine stored on this cool stand.. and you can see I put a piece of duct tape over the charging port to keep dust and water out..

Love both vids and especially the music. So cool. Thnx for your generosity. You're still solid at 60 DJ.

DJ, have you tried one of these rubber plugs?

And yes, unless I'm on soft sand or grass, the helmet is a must. We almost lost our managing partner this summer in a bike crash, training for an MS ride. His helmet saved his life.

Hey guys
one wheel is ordered. Pads are ready and I can't wait.
DJ and Bean you pretty much inspired me. Thanks for the wipeout video DJ, I understand falls are part of it. I won't be riding down any streets in major cities. Pretty much an off road thing for me, whether beach or trails. I plan on learning on the sand before any riding on the hard.

That's great 1T! Looking forward to your first impressions.
