Title: Victory KoreDry board covers
Post by: ford on May 28, 2016, 09:53:17 PM
I'm looking to pick one of these up. I live in south Texas and the summer sun can be brutal.

For those who own them, how have they held up over time?

Is the elastic high quality?

Overall opinions... thanks!

Yes we carry them and they are holding up nicely.
We are involved with them in the  development of this
product..

Let me know if you need anything

I got one for my M-14 three years ago and it's still like new. Now I use it on my M-12'6. It has enough stretch that it fits both size boards.

My experience with the KoreDry covers was not very good. We've had a couple and with daily use in Southern California, they became stretched out and very thin in the nose area. My 12'6 eventually stretched enough to fit a 14' and areas of it become almost see-through. Same with a 9'0 cover.

Check out http://www.paddleboardcover.com. Supposedly this guy had the original design of the KoreDry covers. These are much higher quality, much thicker fabric and a much tighter, secure fit. It's like night and day when you compare the two. Just my experience with them.

The original "Topless" brand does look better.

I'll bet he uses the same Koredry material but it says he has doubled up on the fabric at the ends. Same price as Koredry but with free shipping. That's the way to go.

I think he has improved his product since I bought mine. The website is also improved. Now you can order online and the free shipping is new. I wanted to go with Topless originally but the guy was tough to get a hold of and didn't return my emails, so I ended up getting mine from Koredry.

It's definitely different material than what Victory is using. Thicker throughout the entire cover. Feels much more durable. The guy was at a lot of the SoCal races the past couple years and I think is pretty much a 1-man operation but glad to see he's making improvements and getting the site functional.

Love my topless board cover, really keeps the board cool. I throw mine on over my sup strapped to my car while at work and pull it off when I leave. If you put it on the board and then strap it, it's a bit slippery and the straps will wear into the fabric. Need one for my ski now!

Well I was planning on using it while transporting my board on top of my vehicle.

Maybe I could get some padding to put under the straps....?

Thanks for all of the info everyone.

The Improvements continue.
We Improved the Elastic, is now a Bungee Cord..
Double Fabric on the nose..

Geno is the originator of this concept.
Brought it to Victory to manufacture.

Victory has made the Improvements..

Victory will stand by their products..

Geno ?

So, do Victory and Geno use the same thickness of fabric?

Have you ever had any problem with it becoming loose? I was considering doing this but choose against it as I was too scared that it would fly away on the next car on the highway.

Traveled 1400 miles round trip with the straps over the cover with no problems plus several 60 mile trips. The bungee in the cover is pretty tight and the cover overlaps the ends pretty well, it never came off.
The board bag is a PITA and if traveling far enough to require one, the car is full of luggage and there is no room for it when you take it off.

Also, throw the cover in the laundry and the dead bugs wash away.

the straps over the cover
That is what I do but somebody was talking about putting the cover OVER the straps so as not to ruin the fabric. That seems a little bit dicey to me.

I only do that while sitting in the parking lot.

Ha, that makes sense. I would rather have the fabric wear out than having the cover fly away.

Cheers,

Luc

My experience.
Bought one for my 14 x 26.25 BlackBox UNO. The nose was too wide for the narrow entry on the board, and the cut out for the fin was far too long. I also was concerned about the single fabric at the nose wearing out quickly as well. I went to the local sewing shop, and reduced the size of the fin cut out and pulled the front sides together back about 14" to narrow the nose and put a second layer of fabric at the very front to insure the bow wold not cut through it. This cost me $20 and everything now works fine and does not flap too much at 65 MPH. It is nice not to have the weight of a full padded cover added to the board weight and a lot less wind resistance when carrying it. It seems to provide good sun protection.
One other tip for boards with a concave bottom, where the straps want to vibrate. I slide a piece of 1/2" foam under the cover about 36" x 26" in size so the straps catch it at both front and rear positions, this completely stops the buzzing. You do not have to twist the straps.
Glad to see the manufacturer has doubled up the nose fabric, suggest a Velcro strip on the fin cutout and perhaps on the front as well to narrow the nose width.

Don't know what Geno is doing.

But he doesn't have the resources for fabric and materials that Victotry does..
And we have made improvements as necessary

It would be good to add some new pictures to the KoreDry sight showing the improvements and changes or even putting them in the description.
