Title: Carbon fiber, alternate fibers, various weaves, carbon strips, etc on Swaylocks
Post by: jrandy on May 03, 2016, 04:41:20 AM
There is a current thread on Swaylocks discussing carbon fiber, alternate fibers, various weaves, carbon strips, etc. with Chris Russell at Graphite Masters. The format is 'hot seat' where the people ask and only Chris answers so it's a point-of-view rather than a debate. The content seems to go with some of the threads in the Shape Shack lately.

Hi.  Our basalt fabrics have an almost 20 percent higher elastic modulus than fiberglass. Basalt fiber is made from volcanic rock -heated to high temps and pulled through special bushings to make rock fibers. Safe, non-respirable, UV immune it is a much more eco-friendly fiber. Almost all of the rock becomes fibers. It has a beautiful golden color-it does get darker when resined and looks a bit like carbon but the sun shine reflects the natural colors. We have meshes as well and the combination is very strong. Our prices are very competitive and we look forward to seeing some boards made. Presently we have snowboards and skis and skateboards and the response has been great.  Nick

Man, you beat me to this one. That thread is full of good stuff. Especially about how people mis-use the vector net. Interesting that he says to use it under the glass as well as the theory behind its use and how people use it wrong (most importantly.)
