Bob, Ian, Derek, Shyloe, Jeff, Mark, Elaine, Tim, Todd, Damian, Cleveland, and many more!

Fun, fun, just like Stoneaxe said! We had short square nose boards, elegant longboards, simsups, all sizes and shapes. I foresee Damian on a simmy!

Glad ya'll had fun!

I began to get excited when everyone started buzzing on the weekend.

I must admit, it was kind of nice to have the Cape all to myself....a tad smaller perhaps, but great direction, nice light texture...and a little hollow waist to chest

I mean EVERYONE WENT....I'm sorry, I would like to say I was lonely, but....

Forgot to ask..guys still in 3/2's?
Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?
Post by: stoneaxe on November 07, 2015, 07:11:42 PM
I was in a 4/3/2 but could have been in my 3/2 easily. Pretty good vibe on the water even though it was a bit crowded since it was easy enough to spread out. It started out with SUPs mostly on the left, short and longboarders mostly to the right. As the tide went out it blended. Steady stream of folks coming and going.

The storms we had recently have shoved the sand around a bit. Breaking better at the left end of the beach than the right. I had originally thought of paddling out to the point but it was so good at the beach I didn't bother. There was two swells going. One shorter period without much juice and one longer and bigger. Had a some great long rides. Sore as hell tonight.

Ditto to what everyone said, yesterday was a total blast, great waves, great friends, great weather. Might have been thhe last of the 3/2 sessions as it did cool off toward the end of the day. As stoney said, great vibe and stoke out on the water, lots of hoots and cheers from proners when a sup would make a steep drop and pull some sweet bottom turns.

Great zoner showing, next time we should grab a group photo.

Sooooo bummed, came up for a weekend wedding and it's been blowing for 3 days! Brought the board and a new 4/2 O'Neil Heat itching to get wet.

Enjoyed checking out get kiter's this afternoon far end of 2nd...but sure would have liked to get wet this trip.

Next time!

Great shots!

We had similar size down on Long Island today.  Nice little surprise. Crossed paths with fellow zoner Eastbound at Long Beach- i was getting out he was gettin in.

Heres my first try at a paddle mount go pro from today...which worked for one wave- before i broke my leash and took it off the paddle...It was not a 'try stuff out day'

OMG!!!!!!!  The humanity!!!

Even if I wanted to go my schedule wouldn't allow it. 4:00, wallow in self pity; 4:30, stare into the abyss; 5:00, solve world hunger, tell no one; 5:30, jazzercize; 6:30, dinner with me - I can't cancel that again; 7:00, wrestle with my self-loathing... I'm booked. Of course, if I bump the loathing to 9, I could still be done in time to lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and slip slowly into madness. But what would I wear?

Freakin A.......beautiful!!!

Hahaha. First was totally out of control, not rideable except for proners jumping off the cliff. Nantucket Shoals buoy 14 feet. Got a txt advising I abort my mission and I did!

Been watching the cams the last couple of days and its been looking super fun!  Pretty shot (sans waves) this am.

I can imagine how cool it is to surf in a good heavy snow fall........minus wind of course (???)  I suspect you guys may experience this towards the end of the week!  Sounds like a good one has a chance of whacking the mid-Atlantic and Northeast!

Here's a nice pic Kayadog took yesterday:

First was solid yesterday. Hanging with a Yakmeister who ripped over towards Hooterville. Big fun on the Monsterpiece - King's 9'4" SS Especial.

Eastie, when and where were you? I got caught on the Northeast Surf Cam again!

PDLSFR scared the crap out of me when he pulled up. No shocks though!

OBTW the Nantucket Shoals Buoy peaked at 18 feet..

Saturday was big and clean where I was. Hurricane size. Some waves well over 10'. No idea where that came from. Actually pretty horrifying to me. I know know why the west coast dudes are all about the floatation. Yesterday morning's leftovers were half the size but sweet and clean. Two great days before it got cold last night. Now it's winter.

I'll be heading back up to Lil Rhody in a couple of weeks for several days and would REALLY like to sneak out but thickest suit I have is a 4/3 O'Neil Heat (brand new - still a virgin)....I've got 5mm booties and 3mm gloves...no hood (yet).  Is it crazy/unsafe to venture out in a suit of this size (thickness) in w/ water temps in the high 30's-40(F)???  Thanks!
Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?
Post by: PDLSFR on January 30, 2016, 12:38:47 PM
Hey bud, I'm still in my 4/3 suit as water temp is still low 40's, you'll be fine as long as the weather here stays as it's been (mid 40's and warmer all next week).
Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?
Post by: supthecreek on January 30, 2016, 12:44:03 PM
Whatzzz^
Heck no.... that's all I ever wear :)

4/3 is fine.... you just might get cold after a few hours, but not foolhardy at all.... except for the no hood part.

Get a rashguard with attached hood to wear under your 4/3.... it essentially makes in a 5MM suit!
Without a hood.... you will freeze ;D

Get the thickest rashguard, with attached hood that you can.
oh yeah.....A hood that is not attached to a rashgruard, is pretty useless.
Enjoy!

Perfect!  Understood, heavier rash guard w/hood....Thanks Guys!

I was trolling the NE cams today and someone (I wonder if it was StoneAxe) was out with a proner at 1st Beach....looked SUPER fun.  Watched these two for 10-15 mins via refresh on the Cam Two link and saw some fun rides!  Minimal wind and looked to be 2-3'.  My kind of day!

I'll be down south this weekend. Not sure which spot yet, depends how my back feels. I'm likely to have to do a lot of knee paddling, can't stand for long so paddle outs could be challenging.

WhatsSup enjoy that time w Creek and try all the different boards !

Bob, hope to see you and catch a few waves with you, it hasn't been the same without you there !

Biggie said we might see some Cape folks down in Newport as well, I'll try to talk Peice of 8 and a few of the other CCBC crew to head down as well (maybe we can even get a guest appearance by Spookini), Todd might give the excuse that he spent the month of February in Mexico and is all set with our cold water !!

Lots of SUPs out this am and many Zoners. I arrived around 8am and already 4 SUPs and handful of proners out, not long after I got out, Mr Big and Kayadogg headed out, probably a few other zoners (sorry don't know their zone names), Stoney showed up before lunchtime and before I left everyone was catching waves and having fun. Waves were supposed to be bigger (but thats what always happens and wind was only offshore early then switched early), none the less still a fun day (any day with surf and a nice wave count is a good day in my book)!

Yesterday was an EXCELLENT day on ALL east facing beaches in RI!! KDOG, PDLSFR, many others ripping it up

Waist, chest, bigger sets, light off shores, 65 air, 46 water. A team proners elsewhere!! Uncrowded perfection until the sea breeze in the early PM changed everything.

First day of spring fo sho!

Big and glassy at first light. Newport was my 2nd session of the day and good to hang with you boys and enjoy the sun after getting tons of waves and beatings in the morning. Ended the day with a 3 mile flatwater paddle with my better half. Pretty kick-ass Sunday.

Still looking like fun clean waist-high conditions for tomorrow!  Wish I was gonna be there but will be watching from the surf cam from rainy Annapolis and then heading out to cut 10 acres of grass when the Wx breaks here by noon.

Hope to see some pics and/or a vid!

Have fun all.....ESPECIALLY you Stoney!!!!!!!!!

Stoney.....SWEEEEEET!!!  Glad to read you got out!  Hope you had a blast!  I slept like poopy last night as well and woke up early and was checking the cams well before sunrise.  Didn't look great at day break but definitely clean in what appeared to be waist level.  Looked (to me) like to forecast over sold a smidge.....  NONETHELESS, I would have definitely been out and super stoked to hear you got some water time.

I found myself trying to make up for lost time when I got out a couple of week ago.....I finally had to "check myself" and after a refocus I found myself happy to be out and just enjoying the moment.

As for "checking myself"  I can't think about those two words for a minute without thinking about Mr. Garvey. (aka Mr. Substitute Teacher.  Probably old news but soooooooo friggin funny!)

Hit 1st this am for a little Dawn patrol and found some glassy knee/waist waves, lots of fun and only myself, Kayadogg (having fun surfin on his 12'6 Infinity Race Board) and a dude from north shore on his little JP. As usual Mr. Big sleeping late and missed the party (well he was on the road as we where calling it a morning - some of us have to work).

Spring in southern NE arrived as the warm sun felt great while standing on the board waiting for the sets to roll in, I didn't want to leave as my Paddle Surf Therapy session was going too well !!

Just rolled into town as forecast looked super fun for today.  1st is blowing south already with whitecaps.   Wonder what's up over at 2nd(?) looks like there filming along beach with surfers about 200-300 yards down from the rock.

2nd was slightly bigger early this am, no clue what was going on w fiilming but i heard there where a bunch of proners out over there.

Tomorrow forcast not looking as good as today but possibly some leftover swell, maybe I'll see you, if not I'll keep an eye on the cam for you.

Naps are good. Caught a couple and then the wind switched HARD on shore. SEABREEZE is a commonplace event here in NE.

I looked at the  last ten pics on the cam. Captured again!

Second bigger, SE Mass bigger still as this was a SW swell..

Don't need much swell when you bring yer raceboard  ;)

Really fun morning despite super mellow conditions. About as glassy as it gets and only PDLSFR and one other standie out. I'd catch em way out the back and get off the wave by the time they'd start to paddle into them. Felt like a workout.

Nice morning....got in the water at 6:30am and out at 9:00....Not sure what was up the first hour with me - just didn't have my usual balance.  Settled in after a short slurp of coffee and a muffin at the truck.  Enjoyed the dozens of clean knee to occasional thighers.  Only Zoner out.  Light offshore started some minor bumpiness about 8:30.  One proner down towards carousel and that was it.

All in all...nice little am sess.

Be back at it the next couple of am's....hoping for a little more supin supin Sat/Sun.

I think I may have been out there with you this AM - proner blue & white singlefin - got out when you were going back in for session #3. SUP was definitely the right choice of vessel out there today. Unfortunately, mine isn't too fun to drive with on top of the Cherokee at highway speeds (my hour + commute to the cape for work)!

Sweet! Name's Jason for next time. I'm at 1st or 2nd (when you don't have to be a movie star to surf there) most mornings when there's a bump.

I actually came here to see there was info on SupATX boards (entry level). I found one in CT that looks more reasonable to gen in some surf than the 11'4" x 33" boat I currently try to run from time to time. The ATX is Poly too, which I haven't seen much in the SUP world.

PS. How do you get your gloves back on so easy when they're wet?
Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?
Post by: PDLSFR on April 29, 2016, 02:51:51 AM
Jason, I would hold off on that SupATX board as you could probably score a much better board even cheaper this Sunday if your wiling to drive a little further into southern RI. Matunuck Surf Shop is having it's Spring SUP Sell/Swap meet. Below is the shops ad on craigslist. I myself will be bringing a full carbon BIC Pro Custom 9'2 which I'll sell or trade for around $450 as well as a full Carbon KeNalu Wiki paddle for $150. I will also have another board from KayaDogg a brand new Gulliver V-Box 2 8'6 for $600.

I only mention this if your willing to go to CT for that board might as well see what's at this event.

WhatsSUP, not sure if your still around Sunday am, but I'll be hitting this event around 8:30 (early bird gets the good score), figured I'd keep you posted since if there's no surf here you could try surfing there or doing a little sup swap meet shopping? It's only 30 min from 1st beach.

Matunuck Surf Shop @ 706 Matunuck Beach Rd, Wakefield, RI "Come sell your unused SUP equipment at the Matunuck SUP Swap on Sunday May 1st 9 to 2pm. Jason:  Todd here....my goal this year is to get up here once a month for 3-4 days each the balance of the year.   My wife is from Newport and her fam is scattered here, Mddletown, and East Greewich.  Still working on getting up here full time which is likely to come to fruition within the next year. Anyway, went by 1st about 6:00am and double over ankle and bumpy.   Sitting here at 2nd now typing this----same conditions.   No filming today.  MIL tells me Robert Redford had been in town for weeks films some "Discovery" movie with Jason Segel.  See ha next time!

Derek.  I'm interested in the paddle if its the 84'. How long overall?  I'm 6'1" maybe it's a perfect match(?). PM me.  I'm looking at a house at 2pm today but could potentially come your way today.  As for Matunuck...Given Sunday's rainy forecast I was gonna hit the water tommorow am then head back to Annapolis. I'll stand by.

It's 72 inches long, it was my back up surf paddle, my new surf paddle is cut down to 65.5 inches, short surf paddle feels so much better (takes getting used to but awesome once on a wave and switching hands and moving it easily around the wave left to right).

Sorry we didn't have much waves for ya !!

Jason:  The gloves are 3mm O'Neil's....really like them.  Got them at Island Surf last fall...right around the corner from 1st....I'm sure you probably know where it is (across from Atlantic Grill).  They've kept my hands toasty the last two visits in water ranging from 42-45 degrees.  Think I paid around $35.   Attached are a couple of pics.

Derek:  Sorry for the confusion....was wondering if the blade size was 84".  I might be okay with the 72" overall length...worse case could probably get one of their extender handles, no?

Great - thanks for the info. May be tough to get away on Sunday, but I'll see if I can.

Had a great couple of sessions at 1st Beach Thursday and yesterday mornings.  Fun session with PDLSRF yesterday am!  And great to meet Kayadogg and CNSKI!!!  And scored an awesome Wiki paddle on an early bird Matunuck SUP swap meet sale!

Mr. Big:  You missed it!  You really missed it dude!     ;) ;) ;) ;)

Be back in the next 2-4 weeks!

Looks like ti was fun in the am. I got to 2nd beach right as the wind shifted and came up. Tried out the 11-4 for a bit and got in a few short rides before it completely blew out - still find it tough to control that much board. Tried to get a few prone-style on the singlefin, but that was mostly an exercise in futility. All good exercise though!

A big day today at 1st, plenty of big bombs to go around and everyone got at least a handful. It was awesome having Stoneaxe with us again. Mr. Big got to test his new short Kings while I managed to not only damage my Kings but also got a nasty gash on my shin. You know the rules, if your bleeding in the water time to get out.

Hoping for some leftovers tomorrow, back up board time!

The tropical paradise of Rhode Island delivered the goods once again. 3 2 for the first time. Rode my sinker 105 liter Accelerator for the first time - another King's beauty!

Switched back to the Monsterpiece later. Cheated by paddling out at ABC and caught a couple of OH sets. Sunny felt like Spring.

Stoney said he was gonna take a nap; went to roust him but he had split.

JP Joe was killing it on his 8'6" Surf Pro. Derek caught some beeg wans, before he tried to cut the tail of his King's off. Stoney rode a monster!

I had a great time further West. Went there to pick up a 2015 14x28 Allstar glass/carbon hybrid. It's my summer workout routine board. Can't go wrong for the price but man is that thing heavy. Ugghh. I saw the one and only Supthecreek for the first time!!! He made a brief appearance in the lineup. His board looked a little on the small side cuz he was a fallin left and right. Or maybe he just "wasn't trying hard enough"? ;-) I was gonna ask if he wanted to switch but he was gone before I had the chance. There was alot of weird current and it was pretty bumpy. Challenging for sure. I made the right call and rode my 9'6" Flow instead of my 9'0" Infinity. Really impressed with the Flow. Great big guy board. But you have to stand in the middle where the volume is. I'm a believer in having a higher volume board on hand if the conditions go south. One on the wave it was pretty smooth and not too bumpy. What a great spot.

I didn't take nap, thought about it but not quite. After the 1st session my back was screaming. Sat in my truck with an ice pack for maybe 1/2 hour then went back out. I simply wanted one more wave. Actually got out fairly easy considering the earlier fiasco I was having or almost got out easy I should say. I thought I was outside and just relaxing when a monster set came in and I got hammered, made it over the 1st couple then got smashed bad. Stayed way outside after that and waited for the one. I really had no business being on one that size given the way I felt but if it was only going to be one what the hell....huge drop that I almost blew then it went smoothly after that....didn't do much but surfed it to the sand.

I was having a hard time that 1st session. paddle outs were horrific with my back feeling as it did. I really should have headed further south but I had a somewhat masochistic notion that the paddle outs would be good for me. What a fucking idiot! All I kept thinking about was surfing out a wave without having to pay the consequences of a nasty paddle back out. Next time for sure.

Logged in yesterday am to the surf cam and saw what appeared to be 1-2' with one SUP and one proner out.  Then yesterday afternoon I started getting pics from my SIL of both 1st and 2nd and was blown away!!!  It sure seemed to get big quick!  Looks like some remnants at the moment with one SUP'er out at 1st.

Sorry to hear of the injury/damage there PDLSFR!  Great to read you got out too Stoney - I had no idea you and Pono were brothers, which I read from another thread....I can only imagine the rousting between you two when you get together!  I'm guessing pretty friggin hilarious!

And Mr. Big:  You can throw it back at me...."you missed it Dude, you really did!"

Be headin back up in a few weeks....I'm guessing the forecast will be ankle-knee!  I don't care I'll take just getting out on the water!

Sorry WhatsSUP had to steal Cleveland's quote as it was really awesome this morning, glassy, offshore, waist high clean fun waves, then as usual late morning wind started to switch and made it bumpy. Mr. Big &, KayaDogg on Sub 100L boards and myself on my 117L (Mr. Big nicknamed us the sinker crew).

Switched to my 9'7 longboard style SUP for the long rides and crazy fun. I think even Biggie changed it up to his Angulo.

Hoping Bonnie brings us more waves tomorrow morning !! Hurricane Season is officially on !

Yowsah yowsah yowsah. The SINKAH patrol was out yesterday. Red tide fully present.

My network of spies and old friends who chase waves and study the weather revealed that the angle on the dangle was not equal to the square of the root; Horseneck GuD; Second Beach crowded gud; Little Condominium primo; Gansett side not so much as SW swells usually, but not always, bigger the farther east you go; SE swells the opposite.

Clean early followed by, you guessed it, seabreeze with the dreaded east in it.

I had cleverly scheduled a Cardio Appointnent so I did the AM sesh, did a little CV research, and went back to first and experienced HORROR..Some crazy dood in a yellow truck 🚚 went to look at the scenery on the beach..

And Dave Daum only laughs when I plead to get the correct number of liters for the submersible Accelerator..

What??!! You're not allowed to surf First Beach in the summer??
Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?
Post by: PDLSFR on June 22, 2016, 02:24:29 AM
Cnski you are limited to the far end (surfers end) during summer while lifeguards are on the towers, its limited to two chairs closest to cliff walk) spot called hooterville and if usually the worse red tide spot all summer, so we go before and after lifeguard hours so we can surf the whole beach (cleaner spots and better waves).

It's looking like later this afternoon will pick up, just under waist high now.

Last three early morning session here have been a blast!  Hit 1st Beach Sat morning and 2nd the last two.  Clean knee to thigh conditions.  Good number of proners out and only a couple of SUP's.  Great vibe in water, lots of consistent sets and many hoots and "nice rides".

Was talking to a longer red-haired fellow riding a red JL Striker (9'2" I think he said)...super nice dude who was scoring some killer rides.  That board looks like a super sweet nose rider!  He said its a blast for small northeast conditions like we had yesterday.

Hope all had a great 4th!

Had a great visit to Newport this week!  Creek: Sorry I didn't make it up to the Cape...gotta admit thou the seal (smorgasborg) reports have me a little freaked.

Got out 5 days in a row at 1st and 2nd.  Last day (Wednesday am) was fantastic.  Ton of folks out early and some really sweet waves.  Great to catch up that am with PDLSFR.  Wish I had the GoPro going the last morning as I had one of the best backside rides to date....starting to get the hang of switching directions.

Here's a pic that pretty much sums up this trip for me.

Look forward to next months visit!  Hope everyone is getting out and getting their fair share!!!!!

Biggest board was a HUGE 8'4" Rawson, Kristin was ripping on a TINY Infinity.

We all made Colas proud - team SINKAH riding crappy slop on some seriously submersible smallish boards. Hurricane preparation training. My first session in trunks! BONUS!  ;D  ;D  ;D

2nd beach was the place to be today, a bit choppy but waves waves waves one after another, lost my ride count after 30 and a board change. Solid waist/chest occasionally bigger, crowded like a southern cali beack, it was nuts, must have been 15 plus sups at ine point and a minimum of 60 plus proners, but a good vibe and who doesn't like the occasional obstacle course !! Forcast appears better for tomorrow, so hoping for round two.

I did get my least wrapped around my calf today and wow was that painful, been painful all day since, any suggestions other than Aleeve and Ice ??

I was at 1st...I rarely go to 2nd. Sounds lie it was better at 2nd...explains the lack of crowds...handful of prone and 3 SUPs at 1st. No pictures, surfed 2 hours on the 10-4. Lost track of waves there too but they were mushy and weak ealrly, got better as the tide dropped. Mostly thigh high there but every 10 mins or so a waist to chest set came through. Then i switched to my 12-6 for an hour as a goof but had a blast....caught some out past the swim buoy for long cruising rides to the beach. I very rarely surf that board these days but it was what I 1st learned on and it was fun to play with it. I was pleasantly surpised after some initial getting re-used to it.....probably weighs 40 pounds now, it's been snapped and completely re-glassed and had water more than a few times but I can still crank it around when i get way back on the tail.

Another great day at 2nd, arrived around 1pm, wind blowing hard WNW 15-20 fingers crossed for a little more NW then boom it switched and things got better, solod waist occasionally chest and some bigger here and there (mostly way over there and had to paddle hard to catch up to them), place was packed once again with over 100 proners and good handful of sups (Mr Big, Kayadogg, few others). Enjoyed some fun rides while remembering my days of slalom ski racing around the gates, only this time around the proners bobbing up and down in the water. I look up and see Mr Big with smooth talking a free Uber-Guard ride in the lifeguard 4-wheel John Deer Gater (he just didn't want to carry his board in the wind back to his truck....sneaky guy). We finally rolled off the beach at 6:30pm and it was still firing pretty good, probably could have stayed til dark. Fingers crossed for leftovers tomorrow.

Block island buoy 8.2 feet  SW swell. Rhode trip! First beach NFG wrong swell direction. Eastern beaches NFG wrong swell direction!

Second beach SUMMAH perfection in the land of the one day wind swell. 120 of our closest friends. Short boards, fun boards, long boards, kayak, SUPS of all sizes. Surf schools.

Windy, and then the wind switch! Just as the All Seeing Eye of Horus foresaw. Rode my SINKAH, rode the Monsterpiece. Surfed with old friends, made some new ones!

And PDLSFR did see Cardio Boy catch a lift in the Gator! We are now honorary guards as they knew the story about the unidentified Chatham surfer found floating dead last year!

Who is now alive and well! Great summer beach day reprieve from the flatness that has descended on us!

Super fun session with my son-in-law and Linter over in Narragansett early this am. Got to try Linter's Black and Blue, which was a treat and something I've wanted to try for quite a while...I really liked it A LOT!  Thanks Erik!!!  Conditions were very nice...light winds and plenty of thigh to stomach waves.  Linter has his board pegged quite nicely....its fun to watch him consistently ride way up in the front seat so to speak.  Wish I brought my Gopro out!!!!

Great fun!

As of this morning, it is looking absolutely great for Saturday. Waist to chest, maybe some head high sets, offshore wind. Hopefully the forecast stays and we can all enjoy some waves before the water and weather starts to get cold.

I don't know what is it is about the friggin shrimp at 1st beach...I keep getting attacked by the damn things. That one squirmed right up into my sinus,,,,I don't think I've ever blown my nose so violently before....felt beyond weird.

they're just trying to help--giving you a cleanout. If you could clear your tubes I'd take you to a cleaning station in Maui. You can pull your regulator, open your mouth and the cleaner shrimp climb right in and clean your tongue. If you keep your lips closed they take the dead skin off your lips. Yeah, it feels very weird.

Stoney and I were talking about Tuck's the other week when we shared some waves at 1st...Tuck's came up and I asked him where he parked...he basically said "here and paddle out"....Holy crap!! That's a poke!!! At least for me.....I think I'm too much of a novice to strike out on a good size day and venture out from Hooverville or the Pavillion to Tuck's - I'd have nothing left in the gas tank when I got there. Stay safe fella's!!!!  I'll be out Sat-Tues somewhere between Gansett and the 1st & 2nd.   8) 8)

Stoney, Piece of Eight, and I were only Zoners I knew....but gosh there were a ton of folks out.. I stopped counting at about 50 proners and SUPs up  and down the beach at one point - everyone sharing near us....great vibe in the water.  So fun!!    8) 8) 8)

That was fun, smaller than I'd hoped for and was forecast, morning was best but there were still waves to be had when I left at 2:00.  Caught some very fun long chest highs in the morning and a ton of smaller ones. Longest session I've had, 5 hours, since I came off the injured reserve list and I feel good. I was wishing I'd gone out to Tucks but when the wind was blasting offshore later I was glad I didn't have a 3/4 mile paddle back in.

Just missed you Stoney. Woke up at 11:30. In the water at 2:00.  Just got out now. Fun 4 hour sesh. Tried to get my SIMsup dialed in but no luck. Plenty of waves caught on the Cannibal tho. Still in trunks and rashie. All good. Time for some Flo's.

Too bad....I was really hoping to head outside but more fun with company. There were a few folks surfing out there but no SUPs. Hope you're stomach gets better. OH..and FTBM 11:30! You missed Simsup time.....I actually brought mine too hoping for some big steep drops but never took it off the rack. Might have been good when I 1st got there but my 10-4 was perfect for the rest of the day.

I felt a bit clumsy yesterday but I must have been doing something right, I was the only one on the two biggest waves of the day and had a few folks comment on my surfing.....and they didn't even say f@#$ing kook..... ;)

Stoney you had one front side turn where you were leaning in at a good angle that jumped out at me and then another backside turn that based on where I was displayed a very cool nose up and body position w/ paddle behind you...both on the same wave and impressive.

Went by 1st last night after a family event and a bunch of folks where out working it!  I shot out this this morning for a couple of hours and it dropped out darn near completely!   Was glad I brought my long (SUP) board for the knee highs.  More of a paddle than anything but worked on some fundamentals (cross stepping, quick turns, etc.).  Hope it picks back up!

In VT and sadly have not been able to catch any of the real good swell that seems to be occurring weekly all over NE. Looks like there might be some pushing in down your way but the wind is less than ideal for SUP. The wind direction does seem good for wavesailing though and I need some kind of fix.

Anyone have any insight if 1st works for wavesailing? If yes, do you see frontside DTL conditions there? Is it even allowed or tolerated?

Are there other spots in Rhodie that work? Matunuck?

Yep, 2nd Beach but the far (east) end...closest to Sachuest Point.  I've seen a good number of folks park/concentrate in the far parking lot (if you go into the wildlife refuge you've gone too far) with kiter's largely on that end.  "Surfer's End"
(the west end/cove) tends to be just that, surfers and SUP's.

Its been blowing here for two days with no sign of letting up!

Thanks for all the replies.

Ideal wavesailing conditions are with a breaking wave and sideoff winds which clean up the wave compared to onshore and it allows you to ride the wave frontside which is kinda hard to find around the northeast. That's why I was asking about 1st since ENE wind would be the proper angle. 2nd seems like ENE would almost be dead off shore which would make getting out and riding the wave challenging.

Senor Grande - Sailed those spots and many more on Cape Cod (on the sound and the bay). With ENE wind the West facing outer cape beaches will be a big gnarly onshore mess. The sound will be off shore (= gusty) with no breaking wave so not worth the effort. The bay is an option Corp, Mayflower) but will be short period windswell with no real breaking wave and that's similar to what I get around here anyway.

Will evaluate tomorrow am. If I make it down there, might decide to stay til Saturday so if the wind backs off late day may see you out there!

Well while the Zoner fest was going on last weekend at 1st, i was proning with my kids at 2nd....when it got windy enough on Sunday, i sailed the NW briefly

1st doesn't have a good fetch....2nd can be fun

Anyway the next few days are mess, and ENE can work if there's a S swell  if you are on an island or something

ENE....Cape Cod Bay....sub-World class but fun.
Horseneck, and Some other spots in RI work in ENE

I'm not overly enthused due to the lack of S swell

OC - Ha ha! Just replied back on IW. Thanks for the info.

So was it frontside last Sunday? On a waveboard or SUPsail?

It looks like the swell direction is gonna be more east. Wouldn't that suit 1st better in this case?

Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?

I think the point at Matunuck would be an excellent spot to wavesail on a NE from what I have seen. Port tack, side-off conditions. Not sure if people really do it or not but the crowd is pretty tolerant to SUPS and if the wind is good then most of the surfers will be out of the water anyway. I would do it myself but I have no gear and haven't wrapped my paws around a boom since 2002. Definately miss good sideshore wavesailing and did plenty in my youth.

Check Horseneck Beach in Westport, Mass. Beach faces south so east winds are side shore. I don't do any of that krazy sailing/kiting stuff but I see guys there pretty often.

ENE swells and N winds I always see kiters and windsurfers at Plymouth Beach. Can get big at times. They are the only people I ever see out at Brown's Bank......most of them stay inside on the shoals closer to the beach though.

Sorry for the delayed post but Zonerfest last Friday at 1st. I got there at 8am and sat and watched chest to shoulder sets with head high bombs rolling in for a couple hours, only issue was the wind howling offshore and the waves where closing out pretty bad. Left after watching proners and a sup barely score any ways, figured wind was supposed to die out after lunch and late afternoon to figured Id head back later. Calls started coming in from folls asking how it was and I told them not as good as hoped and I was leaving. On drive home I passed Peice of 8 on the highway on his way, the I see some other familier sups on cars wizzing south. Get home look at the cam and I see a more folks out, wind looks much better, so after a quick appointment with my daughter I speed back to 1st. With typical perfect timing my phones ringing and its Mr Big already half way there as well. I get there an I see smiles and hear lots of hoots, zoner here and there and way down the beach, it eas awesome. Waves still around waist high and fun, suns out, having fun, guess the day off from work for some wave therapy !! Hoping next time to see Stoney, WhatSup, and more zoners.... oh and we even had a special VT zoner on his little JP slate enjoying the Newport scene !!! Oh and I forgot to mention the guest star of the day ... the Newport Goon from my other thread was there... loys of glares and stares, and seemed like a few predatory following but never got close to me (must have been the zoner crew surrounding me with good vibes that scared him away)!

PDLSRF:  Like you I cruised down the beach only to find winds blowing....so I bailed.  Afternoon plans preempted my return later in the day...figures, right.

Looking good size this am via the cam but I suspect its a bit choppy given wind direction...back in Maryland for a few days so can only watch from here.  Hope swellinfo is wrong and wind is a non-issue and you all score!

Have fun!

Got out Saturday for about a hour and a half mid-day....glassy smooth with knee to thigh.  Just me and a cute little seal that made friends and hung with me for the first hour.  We had the water all to ourselves!  SUPER fun!  And managed to stay warm throughout the session with only my feet getting a tiny bit chilly towards the end.  4/3 O'Neil Heat plus a light Patagonia hooded vest, 3mil gloves, 5mil booties, and impact vest did the trick.  Surprised I was able to be that comfortable considering air temp was 28 degrees and water a 43 degrees.

Come on spring!

Went out early this morning was the only SUP, it was clean light offshore, waist with the occasional chest/head surprises, I was shocked nobody else was there, I kept looking around for sharks or another reason, guess everyone was over at 2nd beach as I was told it was a bit bigger by a guy (another SUP) that showed up as I was rolling out. I totally prefer the no crowd, to massive crowd anytime so I enjoyed every minute, wish I could have stayed longer but had to get to work.

Not surprised as the town has known about the 2 other cams on the beach and  ow they just want to put their own stamp on it, way I look at it, surfers already use the other cams so I don't think it'll drive anymore traffic other than the beach goers now having the opportunity to check things out. Plus now I have more cameras to make a better decision to go there or head further south to Narri or Matunuk.

Some VERY fun rides today in Lil' Rhody....woke up and rolled over at 7am after catching the trees outside swaying too and fro only to find PDLSRF committed (via text) to an am session.  I caught up with him after a good hour or so and enjoyed the next several hours with him on some consistent peeling surf.  He was ripping it up on his Ron House with some loooooooooog rides.  DAMN,  I need a camera to catch the shore perspective!  Offshore wind was up a bit at times and I found it challenging.....not to mention a couple of extra beers last night - in the end it was just nice to spent a few hours laughing and hooting and hollering.....Biggie:  Dude, ya missed it!  (lol -- look forward to sharing some water time w/ ya at some point!).  Stoney's got an excuse having just bought a place and setting it up....  ;)  4 sessions in the last week has definitely has reset the attitude meter!

Hi

My little trip to 1st beach –

Back in the day, mid 80s, I learned to windsurf at 3rd beach.  Sailed until my Aleeda 3.0 couldn’t keep the fall temps out.

Bought my first “glass board” from the Johnsons at Island Windsurfing.  Gave the board away and somehow it showed up at my front door a few years ago.  A snow camo cover hid the faded graphics beautifully and it then became my son’s first paddle board.

Years of moving all over for work and raising a family, have kept away until last Sunday -

After seeing good conditions Saturday afternoon, I made a snap decision at 6am and took the 2 hour ride with the bare essentials – my Kings 8-4, wetsuit, bottle of water and a power bar.   After 20 minutes of lurking and watching only one guy out, I thought WTF, no one knows me and if I got skunked, at least I tried.

The first paddle out ended with a clean little left hand peeler.  Minutes turned into an hour.

Just when I was ready claim the venture accomplished, a second sup’r showed up.  We had a little hand wave, then a chit chat about other Cape surfers and that was it.

Then the old one-last-wave, then an encore, then another and then a groomed set that was too good to pass up.  After another hour, I packed it up with a smile.  I don’t want out anybody, but was it you whatssup??

Although the waves hardly put hair on your chest, what a good feeling.

To top it off, commuting with the Boss’ audio autobiography, narrated by the Boss himself made the miles melt away.  Did you know that Bruce was a surfer too!

Ron C.

Hey Ron C that might have been Todd (WhatSUP) on Sunday and he told me he was heading back for leftovers from Saturday. It's looking super promising for chest to head plus tomorrow as a result of this 2 day nor'easter we've had. All of RI was pumping today !!

I hit the water at 1st at 6am and already 60 people in the water yet plenty of big waves to go around. Started with few chest high sets, then as the morning rolled so did the waves, chest then head high, then bigger oh my. By the time We left (both Kayadogg and Mr Big made celebrity appearances) the size was overhead and then some on a few sets.

Mr Big was stoked as he scored one monsta wave and put his paddle in the air to see the size of the wave and it was over his paddle (so at least a couple feet overhead as we know Cleveland isn't a tall basketball player).

It was brutal getting out, washing machine madness so once you got out you stayed out and made sure to cut back and out before the close out got ya.

Hoping for some leftovers tomorrow.

I heard there was a few other Zoners in Southern RI as well this morning... Beasho, Creek, probably a few more.

Repeat of 2 weeks ago to the day, only had to wait out the 15-20 mph offshore winds, then finally around 4:30 the winds died down and conditions became awesome. Mr Big didn't miss a beat just a week out from his great white incident, only difference was the new board he was getting dialed in, since his shark bite Kings is now at the Cape Cod Atlantic Shark Conservacy for research and display. Waves rolled it at a solid waist-chest and head+ on occasion, we where surprised we didn't see any other zoners, not sure if the wind deterred folks.

Seeing and spending time with you, Mr. Big, and Stoneaxe was great!!  I really needed that and can't wait to get in the water with you guys soon!  I ended up going today and lasted a hour before having to call it, but boy oh boy did I need it!!!  Only thigh to waist but nice and clean and got some badly needed rides!  On the road to recovery!!!!!!!!

Wow, so much for surfing in New England - brrrrr!  At least for 2017-

I’d like to thank Todd for being a gracious host last spring.  My plan for avoiding the Cape’s late summer / early fall sharks infested waters more or less worked out.  A quick run-down of some days that you all might remember too:

September 9th– 1st Hurricane.  It was solid chest to overhead and pumping hard into 1st.  By doing a “path measure” on Google Earth, I got the feel that the waves were simultaneously closing out over a 3000’+ face! Yikes!  With no one around who knew me, I kooked it by paddling out near the impact zone and catching the whitewater.  Not a glorious session, but great practice on tricky-to-catch bomb debris.  The great weather made it a decent day overall.

September 16th – One week later and more of the same with Hurricane #2.   This time my wife came along and we had a Cape Cod reunion with Big.  My wife did OK getting near-pounded, catching the shore break with a surfboard.  I only got one decent ride from outside to all-the-way in.  OK, but my ego was getting rubbed raw.

September 23rd – Another week of Hurricane influenced action.  One had passed the Cape and another was deep in the Caribbean.  The Cape’s weather had also sucked for the week prior and that day was no different, heavy clouds and a drizzle so thick, it might as well have been raining.  With no surf plan, my wife, teeth pull’n Steeve (Big’s baseball teammate) and I did long hike first thing.  With my wife heading to CT for a ladies-all nighter, Steve, another friend and I made plans to meet at Mac’s in Wellfleet at 6.

For the first time in many years, a whole day with no family members, I gave it a WTF attitude and headed back to 1st.  Once turning the corner in Fall River, the mist stopped and glimpses of blue sky could be seen to the west.

I snuck into what seemed like the last spot in the first parking lot.  The place was packed as was there was some wine and cheese thing going on in the Pavilion.  With more cloud breaks and a NE breeze, the waves and weather looked good.  Finally, a day for me, not too big and not too small.  Hustling to get my suit on, 3/4s of the couples’ guys seemed to be giving me a “stink-eye”. They looked as though they would have given up their chance to get laid that night to be out with us surfers.  I bet, I bet, that a good percentage of those women would have ditched their man to be out there as well!

I surfed right out in the middle, away from the proners and right out in front on the wine’rs (or should I say wine sippers).  To those on the deck, I rubbed it in with about “500” rides.  Front side, back side, early drops, late drops, and punching through the close-outs.  Right along with me, a father and son had a ball prone’n it.

2 great hours ended abruptly with a race back to Mac’s.  Oh well, at least the company and food were good.

All things considered, one of my best sessions for 2017.

Late October ?? – Todd and I had a fall reunion.  After firing about 10 blanks, I learned that super steep drops were the only way to catch something.  A few decent rides occurred before a stiff SW’r kicked up and blew things out.

Newport Intermission – Back to Coast Guard the day after Thanksgiving with my wife.  She caught a handful of rides on the inside with her surfboard and then left me for the next hour+ of very nice sets.  An "A" session and 2 more sessions, of the same, over the next couple of weeks.

One more time to Newport for Christmas eve – I didn’t get my ass kicked, but mother nature told me to go sit on the bench. Being a 135# weakling, I could not overcome the wind gusting up and over the wave faces.

Thanks again Todd, I’ll be back in better weather!

RC

As you can guess, cabin fever is setting in

Hi all:

Outer Cape - storm update 1-4-18 at 7:30pm

we just started to get a frosting of white.  I'm OK getting out of snow shoveling duties!

We dodged the bullet on snow too. A few inches of wet sloppy stuff. Glad a snow blower came with the new house....made clearing it pretty easy....setting up like concrete now

Very bummed I couldn't get down south today....head wasn't cooperating enough for a highway drive.

Tried going locally but all local access closed...broken seawalls, roads washed out. looked surfable from a distance but would have been a tough paddle out. Likely more than a bit of debris in the water though....probably for the best.

There were a few SUP's out yesterday  and many surfers up and down the beach.  Some major waves.....most wave catchers were riding over head high waves.....out of my pay grade.  The biggest waves were along the rocks were there were only surfers and most were quite good riding waves easily a couple of feet over head. I had a ring side seat for several hours as we were celebrating my nephews 1st birthday at the Rotunda/Carousel.  One SUP'er had a hell of a time getting out...I watched him for over a half hour getting pummeled. Another SUP'er was rippin it pretty good....couldn't really tell board make other than yellow-is/white and red as best I could tell - waves were breaking waaaaaaaaaay out!

Blowin here still this am out of the NE.....will take the short 5min ride to the beach around lunch and take a look.

Viewing stand yesterday.....not the skills to handle the bigger surf yet so what better to watch from the comfort of a warm room on the beach-

I took the day off tomorrow. 3' @ 15 seconds with the offshore breeze should be about as good as it ever gets. Well 82 degree air temp and 72 degree water temp would be as good as it gets around here.

Hey RI Zoners!   Figured i post here rather than start a new thread.

Im in RI for work and wanted to try to score a surf Tues AM.  forecast looks good (3-4ft and clean)

I may not have my SUP- (be on a prone board for car space) but still would love to meet up with anyone in the area surfing or SUPing that morning.

Im not tied to any location- I'd be driving down from Boston the night before and dont have much local knowledge outside of surfing Naragansett years ago.

NorthJerz:  I'll pm ya on Monday when I have a better idea what my Tuesday will look like.....Right now I've got a couple of things brewing next week to include a quick business trip to D.C. Wed-Fri so not sure how Tuesday will shape up.  I know I have a conference call from 9-10am then free up after that (as far as I know).  I live in Middletown about 5 mins from the Newport and Middletown beaches so tend to favor my local nearby spots. Will keep ya posted....FWIW, Narragansett and breaks to the west and south of me often tend to be a bit more quality...something to think about depending on where you're staying Monday night.  Touch base (pm) Monday.

Hopefully a few others will also chime in....

Pretty sure I'll be clearing snow all day tomorrow. Depending on who you look at anywhere from a foot to 20".

I might try and go out local Wednesday afternoon. Strong winds but if it goes as forecast WSW is in the shadow of the cliffs and it will be nice in the cove....3' @ 12s...fingers crossed.

Storm has started out slow here...lots of constant wind...loud but only an inch or so of slushy snow so far. As of ten minutes ago they are still saying 20"+ for me but I'm feeling hype at this point
Title: Re: Anybody hit 1st Beach today?
Post by: stoneaxe on March 13, 2018, 05:40:21 PM
Storm started slow and ended early....8" of wet and sloppy snow...too heavy for my snow blower so I shoveled it. I'm somewhat weird in that I sometimes enjoy shoveling so not too bad. Felt good to get a sweat going standing in a blizzard.

I'm staying local tomorrow from the looks of it. If I can get out of the wind it could be nice.

I have a lot weather links. Some of the news outlets are covering the prolific number of nor'easters that have traveled along the eastern seaboard all the way up into New England.

One of these news outlets is saying there is a another chance a fourth nor'easter will impact the areas already reeling from the first three nor'easters. If this long range forecast pans out, it will arrive around March 20th.

Had a great session today at second beach. Wind died. Waist to chest clean no crowds. Only one other supster.

First was closing out. NFG. MTK on the other side was ok early and then the wind got on it.

LC smaller as the swell was a southeast long period surprise.

The snowsquall that greeted me was not fun..

Dang, just missed you Mr. Big.....I was going back and forth between the two beaches.  When I was at 2nd there was one SUP-er (on a blue Starboard I think) along with 4 proners are hanging east of the rock.  First was definitely bigger but looked to be a challenge.

Went back out yesterday and had it to myself....occasionally gorgeous sets of stomach to chest rolling in.  Soooo fun and a beautiful day.  The dunking's felt quite refreshing....

Come on spring!

Todd, you are RETIRED and have a truck.
Living 5 miles from the beach is great..... but if it's flat, you are less than 2 hours from a lot of options.

I drove about 250 miles this week and scored every day.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D   Your right Creeker!

I'm still stoked everyday and make it out a few times each week even times like now when MS and Surfline say "Flat".....I've learned rarely is it EVER flat.  I posted this am and 10 minutes later hit the beach for a fun 2 hour session in knee-high niblets....still fun as hell and it makes be practice cross stepping (up and back) and quicker turns to catch rides on the ol' B&B!!!

I think I got caught up in "hurricane season" starting June 1st and envisioned waist to head-high for the balance of the summer....you'd think I'd know better!  ::) ;D

All good.   ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Last night was SICK !!! Chest to Head and the many occasional overhead + !!! As Todd said...out with 100 plus friends, at least I saw Mr Big catch a few monsta's and Stoney road some sweet bombs !! We stayed til dark and it got bigger and bigger. Unreal awesomeness.

I went out at 6am this morning til 8am and it was hit and miss, some nice waist but nothing like last nights dream session.

Bring on the next storm !!!

What fun waves. I got some bombs when the swell 1st started filling in but started cramping later. Took it a little easy and just went for the clean chest high peelers after that. Paddled down to the other end after 6 and then back...caught one last big one from outside and called it a day. Some pics while I munched a cheeseburger before heading home.

Awesome Gents!!!!  I went by 1st last night and saw you guys out and watched for a short time then decided to quickly run over the hill.  Holy hell, a ton of folks out but I was in awe as I watched a couple of waves from different sets wipe out the entire line up.....I've never seen the entire line out paddling south towards the horizon as hard as possible only to be completely gobbled up!  Went back there this am and again a ton of folks.  Some very nice sets and lots of folks but had some very fun rides.

Gonna be back to the B&B tomorrow in the 1-2'.  Got two great days on the Creek yesterday and today....Thank you Hurricane Chris!

Glad you guys scored!!!!!! GREAT pics Stoney!!!!!!!

Last night was insane! Made a couple on my SMIK over towards Hooterville that were ridiculous.
This morn clean leftovers.
The guard at chair six made my day. He saw my biggest wave last night on the Rainbow Board. Cleaned up every body and everything. Unless you were too far outside! Hehehe.

First was awesome last night. Long boards, short boards, SUPS,  even a .rescue board ( knee paddled into some bombs by a lifeguard ).

Florence groundswell starting to show.

Had a new leash as I snapped my Balin in NH the day before. I can still swim.

Fun waves in NH, ME, and RI.

A short violent surge from Michael delivered a crazy disorganized swell to Second Beach early afternoon.

First was small and clean by the cliffwalk.
Decided to grovel on my SMIK Short Mac.

While I am in the water large and larger swells appeared. More and more people saw the Rainbow Bridge catching waves. It got crowded.

At the peak my four set waves were not reachable by the tip of my paddle. Yowsah yowsah yowsah!

And then it got dark. Spooky.
This morning it was still waist chest clean  and fun. Usual suspects included Whatsup, PDLSFR, Fanatic J, and many more.

Fall is here! Gloves, duck hats, booties and other accessories made the cold drizzling rain FUN!

Actually the glassy groundies were kuhl!

Todd had fixed the black and blue - yellow actually - machine! GuD to see him and it stylin' !

Rumour has it a certain KDOG was at another location over the bridge!

Yep. First time in a full suit since last winter and I wasn’t happy about it. I’m still holding out on gloves, booties and a hood though. It was fun where I was at until all of the late-sleepers showed up.

In the last 2 1/2 weeks I've gone from spring suit (short sleeve and legs) to a 3/2 then to a 4/3 this am - thought I would be waaaaay over dressed this am - not so as it was damp, cool and eventually rainy.  Hopefully we''ll get some decent Wx and another month of 3/2 before the heavy stuff comes out....maybe wishful thinking!

Great to see a bunch of the NE Zoners!!!  Cleve, Derek, Jeff, and and host of others with some great rides and stoke for the crowds!  And then there was the little 5-year old with his dad!  Little dude was getting pushed in by his Dad and legit surfing into the shallows!!!  Sooo funny/cool!

Good day!!

I was planning on coming down Sat morning but was sick in bed.... :P....we need a puke emoticon..... ;)

I'm hating the cold....never used to bother me but getting older I've suddenly started hating it. I'm going to need a new suit and do more to stay warm this year. Can't wait until my wife retires so we can head south for the worst of winter.

Ahhh, Stoney - bummer,...sorry to hear mate! Hope ya found sum-thin,

After dos (2) trips, about 5 min trip (to/from my local) earlier this am, and returning home and reviewing the wind forecast, it became pretty evident that the better part of the day was gonna be between noon and 3pm.  Yep, laughed my arse off at myself and a host of others getting some ridiculous rides and some nice "pitted, so pitted" rides!!  Glassed off to waist to chest/head high perfection  - Mr. Big and I had an absolute blast for well over an hour.  I left my SS3 in the truck and I REALLY wished I had set it up.....Mr. Big on the Smik, and I was on my "Creek". We hooked up on one wave (a left-ee) that broke far outside and friggin-A - I tailed Big for one of my longest rides of the year - one of those rare awesome green waves that doesn't break and just goes on and on and on and ya just bop and weave, slip and slide on and on.......soooo funny.

What a day!!!! Still smiling........  8) 8) 8) 8)

Wind abated. Went to Second. Hahaha. Went to First.

Rode my RNB. Wind died. Absolute glass. Everyone left for reasons that made NO SENSE.

Changed boards. They're like dogs and need to be exercised.

Grabbed the SMIK paddled out and saw a tall fella, shades, on a Sunova. Who dat?

Guess who? We had so much fun. The surf gods and goddesses conspired on our behalf. Sunny and warm with increasing size on the tide. Absolute glass. Got shacked on the inside.

Proners got excited. I couldn't believe it. Todd was killing it on his Sunova.

After an hour or so the wind shifted onshore and our magical interlude was ovah!

Wow

My new year’s resolution of 2017 was to make trips inland to RI, in preparation of avoiding the Cape’s late summer shark fest.

April of 17 was my first trip.  That’s where I met “whatsup”

Fast forward to this fall - yesterday was only my third day of wave surfing since the first of August.  Fortunately, yesterday, along with the first 2 to 1st beach, were solid A’s.

1st is a tricky shore break, often times it’s all or nothing.

I’m not sure what was considered the magic time yesterday, but the early to mid afternoon shift was really good.

Along with Big; OC, his son, PK and I were part of the immigrant caravan that snuck in under RI’s border fence.  I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that we clearly didn’t stink up the joint.

I saw OC catch a left that could have made a surf magazine.  It was super clean and decent in size.  Thinking to myself, I gonna get one of those before I go home.  After migrating some more to his location, I settled in to an easy rotation with a kayaker and short boarder.  We were all cheering for each other and shared really well in the playpen.

Rick Creek and I jaw-jacked in the supermarket tonight.  He too had made his way.  Before we left, him 70 and me 60 coming up were pumped up like teenagers.

Wow is how I still feel 24 hours later

Nice report and VERY stoked for ya!  "The Island", as commonly referred to by us locals (Newport/Middletown/Portsmouth) can definitely deliver!  Sorry I missed ya Sunday! I love love love my B&B but Sunday wasn't a nose-ride kinda day (for me) - SOOO love my "Creek" as she's soooo friggin easy to ride/turn as compared to the B&B one trick pony.

I also REALLY like a spot west of me (over the bridges) but the couple of times this year I left the island in search of waves was fruitless....lesson learned over and over again - why I repeat the same mistake (leave waves to find waves) expecting a different result can be comical - not to mention cost gas and tolls!!  :-\

See ya next time maybe!!!!

Only 3 days of wave surfing since August?  I don't know where the time went.

Some great days of windsurfing have helped fill the void.  Tomorrow might a good one with a stiff WSW forecasted.

One more thing about yesterday OC - Recounting Sunday's good vibe at work with Nate, he tells me you are running a "bleed out" prevention seminar.  I felt bad not knowing about it.  Talking with Seth who I also work with, he didn't know about it either, and he grew up with Nate.  The 2 of us will be sure to sign up!

Second time this week Mr. Big and I scored some sweet conditions....once again the light side-shore breeze dropped out and left us a good couple of hours of glassy knee-thigh to occasional waist perfection.  I set up the SS3 and F-ing A.....had it pointing out directing in the sun glare pretty much the whole time ( :o :o :o )  - except where we went in and then paddled down the beach a bit (into the glare!)

Big and I switched boards a couple of hours in.....he on my B&B and I on his Smik (8'8" I think).  He's was logging it (I think I caught a nose ride!) and I was playing on the Smik grabbing inside nuggets.  I got up on it and felt pretty stable from the get go to my surprise!  Made the first 3 waves I went for and was rewarded with very fun little rides.....it seemed all I had to do was think about where I wanted the board to go and it went...bottom turn, up on the wave, down, etc.,  By far the shortest, lightest volume board I've ever been on (Creek at 9'4" is my shortest/lightest volume to date). Super fun board!  After another half dozen rides we switched up again. Thanks Big!!!

The nose-riding saga continues!!!!!!!

Another great day in the books......so fun!

WhatsSUP went early. I went late. KDOG showed up as the sun went down.

Waist chest head sets. Oily glass. A little fog.

Logged it on the New Deal. KDOG ripping on his 75 liter submarine.

Did a double session. Where was PDLSFR? We tried to roust him!

NOBODY OUT! Why no one knows. The long period groundswell showed exactly as I foresaw it! Riiight!🤣

Two quality sessions this week for sure!!!!!  Big and I had a similar day this past Tuesday.

Usually days like yesterday draw large crowds, which was the case Tues.  Yesterday, however, I was the only one out for the two hour ses..... not sure why(?). Forecast I guess ....which was only calling for 2’ or so.....actual conditions were glassly waist to shoulder faces when I was out.

Love love love winter waves/days!

CG was firing with some chest to near head high sets.

The crowd had 2 morning shifts.  Big Creek and many did the morning and a few others and me did the second half.

My almost had to narcan me off the couch to do some chores!

Stylin' Stiles on the B & B, SharkBoy on his new SMIK, HelmetMan, GreenCreek, and a couple of Cape Cod refugees had a great session at Second yesterday.

Waist to chest, bigger sets, offshore winds, SUN, and the suppatrol had total control of the lineup.

I went to my private left at concessions, WhatsSup took off on a head high wave, strolled up the tip and rode it to the beach.

My buds from the cape were killing it on a Square Nosed Angulo, and an 8' Starby Pro.

I was learning how to ride my new SMIK 9'2 Hipster. Changed the fins to keels with the nub.
Scotty has created something slick, or should I say SMIK.

Green Creek dude was ripping. Wanted to talk, but he was gone.

An awesome session. Felt like SPRING!!

Amazing fun at Second today. Offshore winds a clean little mystery groundswell.

NOBODY there!

Well there was a young longboarder who went leashless given the massive crowd scene and a 71 year olde fahrte on a SMIK Hipster Twin MiniMal.

Trading waves hooting hollering and it was warm! Hood down, I told the young fella he made me do it!

Waist to chest glassy coming in sets from the mystery sandbar. Concessions was also as good as it gets.

Whuda thunk a Twin Fin longboard would be as stable up on the Schnozz. Still figuring this new sled out.

And then the seabreeze came up and our little interlude of glassy longboarding shananigans was ovah.

Pink head disease. Sunscreen oops!

Hello to Todd, Big, PDLSFR and all:

I was just telling my daughter how much fun I had, and said I better check for a 1st Beach update.

It had been over 2 months of no surf for me - blame it on sharks!  Work didn't help.

I'm so glad to have made the trip.

Man talk about rusty, I must have pulled the trigger 4 times for every wave.

2 days later and I'm still waiting to try a cough or sneeze!!
