I'm looking for a good gps watch mostly to build paths from surf sessions but also to see distance and max speed. Idelally I'd a breadcrumb style map too but that's no biggie. I used to have the 310xt, which had these things, but I lost it.
I just got the forerunner 220, but it doesn't seem to have a map or even the ability to show max speed. It's still returnable, so before taking it into the water I wanted to see if anyone has any tips about these things? Is this just the wrong watch for surf?

I had two 220s and you can see map, route and other details, but you need to upload the data to Garmin Connect.
Forget the 220 and get the Vivoactive. Amazing smartwatch and perfect for paddling. Check the DC Rainmaker site for the Comparison Calculator and the Vivoactive review.

Very interesting. I wonder how it compares to the Suunto Ambit2? Looks like about the same price. I've been reading some good things about that watch.

Here a report with a map from my 910xt.
I think it show most of what you want.

Interesting about that deal on the fennix. Can it display:
- speed
- top speed
- distance
On the face at the same time?
And somewhat easily reset top speed?
And I'm guessing it's a given that it can download the tracks to a computer.
