Title: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes ...
Post by: Gramps on August 26, 2015, 07:56:00 AM
And lungs and sinuses.  How's everyone else in the NW handling the smoke from the wildfires?  My body is going to hell from missing my morning walks, suping and general lack of exercise.  I drove a couple of hours yesterday to get in a paddle and the smoke was better but still not great.  I've been using http://www.deq.state.or.us/aqi/index.aspx (http://www.deq.state.or.us/aqi/index.aspx)to check air quality in OR, but it's not very accurate, at least for the Grande Ronde valley; it shows things getting better but they're worse.

Oh well, just venting; this too shall pass.

Hood River is pretty clear as long as the wind comes from the west. The few days we had of still air and prevailing breeze from the Northeast or Southeast was nasty. My daughter is still fighting the fires and says you can cut the air with a knife. Not great for a kid with asthma.

West wind is best for us, as well, but we've been getting a lot of wind from the north which is where the closest fire is.  We have a lot of asthma in our family, tell your daughter to be safe.  Maybe it's a good time for me to head for the coast and learn to SUS.
