Title: Payette River Games
Post by: capobeachboy on June 17, 2015, 08:46:01 PM
Any Zoners going? Gonna be interesting to see how the inflatables do against the hard boards.  With a $50k purse there's gonna be a lot of talent.

This looks like such a fun event. It's on my list for next year if I can make it work somehow. Dave Boehne pulled out a new board he designed just for the PRG that is a 10'6 Blackfish. Different bottom and tail than the regular Blackfish though. Looked fun and he's still pretty damn fast on it. Him, Slater and AV will be on them. Really cool to see companies designing boards for specific events.

Not much media coverage for an event that has 2x the purse of the BOP.  It is gonna be epic.

Update: live at the Payette River Games, Rebecca Giddens takes a dominant 34 second lead at the SUPer G prelims! Rebecca is a former Olympic kayaker who won the silver medal for the USA in Athens.  Her husband Eric (also an Olympic kayaker) will be competing in the men's division.

Rebecca Giddens won the women's overall and in the men's Eric Giddens was fifth overall and Kelly Margetts was in the final and finished 19th. Amazing performance as this event brought out the best of the best from SUP whitewater, race & surfing all going after that $50,000 purse.  Full results from SUPthemag:

Congrats Wardog !  I noticed the deckpad in some shots but he had the Focus logos all over so I wasn't sure.  That is very cool.  Mo is just an amazing paddler and surfer.

Payette River Games rules were 11' maximum. Did you shave an inch off the One World?

Thanks Chris...yeah, pretty stickered up...the board looked like a NASCAR entry...;-)

Yes, PT Woody...a hacksaw at the board measurement table took 1" off the nose of our 11'1"...;-)
Did you get to paddle our 11'1" x 30" One World when you visited our shop?

Couple of cool vid clips from the comp with Mo Freitas (IdaMo) navigating the rapids with the One World...this kid definitely has some mad skills...

I paddled one of your 11'1"s at a board demo at SB main beach a couple years back. Absolutely terrific glide on that board as I recall. No wonder it did so well at PRG. Though I'm sure a little credit is also due to the pilot.

Mo is definitely a talented pilot...he hasn't spent much time at all doing whitewater...at least the unsalted kind...;-)
At the PRG event, he used the right tool to get the job done right...
$10K is a nice payday...a few years back at SUP races, the winners were still getting coffee cups and miscellaneous chotskies...;-)

Here's another good edit...

More than a few people were confused...;-)

One year later, we finally got official credit for the board that Mo paddled to victory in the 2015 Payette River Games...
He also successfully raced it at Race the Lake of the Sky in Lake Tahoe the following week...
