My wife put a little ding on her board and I wanted to order a repair kit from amazon. The kits are specific to epoxy or fiberglass boards. thought I'd check in here first for the answer. Also any recommendations for a decent kit?

I'm no expert but I think you will find that your Starboard Coast Runner is both epoxy and fiberglass.. and you need to buy the epoxy board repair kit..

Epoxy and polyurethane are the resins. Fibreglass is the cloth in both, unless you have carbon and those boards are mostly epoxy.
The foam inside boards is usually EPS or Polyurethane adding to the confusion. The key thing to remember is that polyurethane resin will eat EPS foam that is often used in Epoxy boards. So a poly resin kit will eat the foam in your wife's board.

You need one for 'epoxy' repairs.. :)

West System epoxy is the best. Most marine stores have it.
Even if you don't use that brand, the website has a ton of very useful how to information.

this. And if it's painted, to color match and blend the confusion is worse.

You guys are making this way harder than it is. You can fix any board with epoxy.

So is it just a surfboard industry thing that boards are classified as either epoxy or fiberglass when it's either epoxy or polyester? That designation bugs me more than someone using " their"instead of "they're"

Not just surfboards. Yachts are also made of epoxy these days.
Fiberglass is an old word from the fifties. People still use it when speaking of polyester resin products because originally that was all there was.
Fiberglass is also what they call the glass fibers which are used with both polyester and epoxy resins, BUT we never call an epoxy board a fiberglass board. Nor do we call an epoxy boat a fiberglass boat. That would be confusing.
